many inland east bay locations will have lows around 33 3435 degrees, even right around the bay shoreline. we're talking about lows of 3839 degrees. only san francisco and half moon bay will have low temperatures that do not drop below 40 degrees. then tomorrow, under sunny skies in the afternoon. look. it will be a pleasant day, but a chilly one. look for highs, mainly ranging from about 55 to about 57 degrees. and here's the accuweather seven day forecast. as you can see, we're going to have three consecutive sunny days through monday. but they'll be relatively chilly days with highs only in the mid to upper 50s. then it becomes partly cloudy on tuesday and gets even colder as we move into wednesday, with cold, rain and snow on the bay area peaks. a level one storm thursday, a pretty strong storm, rain and gusty wind. that pattern continues into friday, so enjoy the sunny but chilly weather. and then comes the rainy and chilly weather. all right. >> chilly is consistent. >> chilly is consistent. >> chilly. we alice loves the scent of gain so much, she wished there was a way to make it l

a wind advisory is in effect until 11:00 tonight for all of the bay area except the three north bay countiesf napa, sonoma and marin. winds will be generally the sustained winds out of the south at 25 to 35mph, but check out the gusts 45 to 70mph, increasing the possibility of downed trees and power outages. right now, we're looking at gusts at the surface well over 40mph in places like san francisco and sfo. over at oakland, 41 mile per hour gusts right now, 47 mile per hour gusts at half moon bay. and in the higher elevations, those gusts are even stronger nearly 90mph. right now at pine mountain up in marin county. and of course, i mentioned that thunderstorm risk, which is with us until about 7 p.m, but there was a warning in effect earlier. apparently that has now expired. over in the sierra, a winter storm warning in effect until 10:00 tomorrow morning. we're expecting another 1 to 3ft of snow there through the end of the week overnight, once that cold front sweeps through that i described earlier, cold air will settle in. we're expecting low temperatures in the early morning hours in

but now it's hammering the central bay, moving into the south bay.ere's a look at 6:00, where it is still over the south bay. but you can see the back edge on this. so by eight, 9:00 here's midnight. it's out of here. and it's still moving over the sierra as well as into southern california. so we are expecting another inch to two inches of rainfall with this here at home. and as we look at the sierra there snow levels are falling. blue canyon right about 5000ft, two inches expected. pollock pines closer to 4000ft an inch there. and then you get into the peaks, and we're talking about a foot to a foot and a half before this storm moves out. meanwhile, temperatures outside our doors at this hour with the windy, soggy conditions, mid 50s to low 60s. and that's where we do expect to stay for the afternoon. but again, just those pockets of rain expected to really hammer the afternoon commute. it's going to be very hazardous out there. and i know you said you'd like to venture out in the rain, but you may want to rethink this one today. andre. >> you know

a gloomy morning across the bay. we want to thank you so much for starting it with us, groundhog day. i'm kira klapper cinthia pimentel has a quick look at our microclimate forecast. and you're saying we might have some off and on rain today? yeah. and i'm saying i'm also a real scientist compared to the groundhog. so you choose. but i did want to talk about the huge range of rain that we've seen over the last two days. san jose rain shadowed once again, just over a 10th of an inch at san jose state, about half an inch or more as we move from concord to danville. but look up there towards the north bay, 2 to 3in mill valley, ground level right there, three inches, but up into the peaks. we are seeing mount tam approaching that seven inch mark and it's still raining light though right now through parts of san rafael, out there towards the richmond-san rafael bridge into san francisco and daly city. spotty rain continues into parts of sonoma and napa counties. i did want to mention that parts of highway 121 and 112 are

a 10th to 2/10 from the south bay. east bay could see upwards of a half inch. then we're going to add in sunday, taking us over an inch of rain in richmond, a third of an inch in san mateo, three quarters of an inch san francisco. and you can see about a third of an inch in the far east bay. and this is monday, when the heavier rain moves in. we've got over three quarters of an inch in hayward. most of the activity, two and three inches up in the north bay. and then you can see the santa cruz mountains three quarters of an inch. so the winds will kick up as well. in fact, they're calm to get going. but by that two 4:00 time period, we've got the gusty winds 20 to 30 miles an hour, even close to 40 miles an hour right on through sunday. so first, a slug of moisture bringing mostly rain, then about a foot of snow in kirkwood. this takes us through next weekend. this is our five and six feet that we need for sure. and then back home right on through the next seven days. still looking at nearly six inches santa rosa, three and perhaps upwards of maybe four inches i

sadly, two people were killed in the north bay. today in the bay bob redell joins us now. and, bob, first responders are really trying to get that message out to people to stay safe. and first responders there saving lives. one in a very remarkable way. there was a woman who was driving her car in marin county. she says her vehicle hit a puddle, lost control, slid into a creek where the water was very deep. this is body cam video of a marin county sheriff deputy. you could see him and hear him breaking the window to this woman's car. you can see most of her car was submerged in that creek. fortunately, the woman was able to keep her head above water long enough for that deputy to pull her out and get her back to dry land and safety. she was lucky. two men were not further north in sonoma county. first responders recovered a man's body in unincorporated santa rosa. they believe he entered the water either on foot or a bike. authorities found another man in unincorporated calistoga. he was found dead in a culvert. his neighbors believe he is trying to clear that creek when h

bay. at least two people are now confirmed dead. we're live with the new details on the tragic turn of events. good morning, and thanks for joining us. i'm laura garcia and i'm chris chmura. marcus washington is off. let'segin with a live look at san jose. it's one of the many places seeing rain today. our storm ranger is working hard, scanning the skies as wet weather gives the bay area a12 punch. sadly, this comes as we've learned that the storm has turned deadly. we'll check in with nbc bay area's ginger conejero saab. she's up in the north bay in just moments. but first, our team coverage kicks off with meteorologist kari hall. she's tracking it all, and we've seen this round of rain coming in very quickly and producing some heavy rainfall. we've already had some flood advisories for san francisco and parts of san mateo county as well. and we've seen some of the lighter rain that still continues. it's been very steady for the north bay, but we've seen the biggest impact south of the go

not so much for the north bay. and we are going to have a cool day now that the colder temperatures are settling in. we'll also have some chilly nights and dropping down into the 30s, with our highs only reaching into the 50s over the next few days. so our hour by hour forecast shows that there still will be a chance of rain from marin county to napa and sonoma counties as well, and farther north, while the rest of us may miss out on that rain, it's going to be partly cloudy for the afternoon. the next batch of showers will arrive early tomorrow morning, and then we'll continue off and on throughout the day, and maybe even continue into friday morning before rolling out of here for the weekend. rainfall totals will reach about three quarters to an inch, possibly an inch and a half in san francisco. and then the rest of the forecast. we a are seeing things looking much quieter after such a busy week, and we are going to see sunshine from saturday all the way through next tuesday, and temperatures that will head for

san francisco to the east bay. same thing for the north bay. a little bit of a rain shadow in the south bay, a quarter to about three quarters of an inch. and then as we head through sunday's forecast, we'll pick up on additional rainfall. but it really looks like the target's going to be over the north bay with a half to about one inch and a third in san francisco to trace amounts down here in the south bay. so when it com to our flood concern, well, everybody should just really be careful this weekend. i think it's going to be marin, napa and sonoma counties with the highest risk of any kind of flooding. so just be careful, especially around any small creeks and streams. they will start to rise pretty quickly once we get under some of that heavier rainfall. we're not expecting huge wind gusts here, but it will kick up at times out of the southwest, 15 to about 35mph should be manageable on the wind front. temperatures here in the upper 40s to low 50s, so grab the jacket along with the umbrella. tomorrow. we're at 54, in san francisco, 49 in t

have the map just below me showing you all the bay area. and throughout the morning hours, we saw these hit or miss showers that we're still dealing with right now. just near lunchtime. heading into the next couple of hours, this atmospheric river will continue to tilt its way into the bay area, with it bringing thunderstorm activity into our three, four 5:00 hour as it continues to track off into the east. so let's start off with what's happening for us. we take a look at the first alert doppler. it is very active out there. i mean we've seen wind gusts anywhere up to around 55 60mph, almost just near pacifica. it's been a very breezy day all along that coastline, all the way down into half moon bay. and with those cloudy skies or those cloudy skies, we're not done just yet with the rain. so far we've seen close to around nine inches just since friday over in the kentfield santa rosa topping off close to six inches. so let's dive into what's happening right now. take a look at that first alert doppler this atmospheric river slowly starting

through from the north bay to the south bay.e heard mark tamayo earlier saying that the rain will soon subside, but it is set to pick up back again on thursday. this storm has left thousands of people without power. pg and e crews are working around the clock tonight to try and restore service, and the largest number of outages is on the peninsula. a continued downpour, coupled with wind gusts knocked out power twice to more than 500 people living in pacifica. affecting both homes and businesses. a bit farther inland, some peninsula residents were preparing for likely flooding as that rain came down. neighbors say a mobile home park in redwood city is vulnerable to flooding every time there is sustained hard rain. >> if you leave your car in there, you're not going to be able to get in your house because the water is like up here. it's a hassle because if you need to work the next day, you know, you need a place to rest. yeah. especially back here. yeah, exactly. you cannot come back here. >> county officials are urging resident

the bay bridge does have the backup east bay.but we did fill in all lanes once again at the toll plaza. back to you. thank you. mike. president donald trump is placing blanket tariffs on canada, mexico and china. scott mcgrew joins us now. just one of many developments over the weekend. i think we need to really it's going to be important that we make sure we're paying attention to all the developments that come out of washington. but sure, we can start with tariffs, 25% on anything from canada or mexico, 10% chinese goods. the surprise is there's no carveout in the tariff for food. you may recall candidate trump said he was going to bring grocery prices down. trump says china, canada, mexico are exporting dangerous drugs to america, and neither canada nor mexico are doing enough to prevent people from crossing their borders into america. now, the standard reminder americans pay american tariffs on foreign goods, and those tariffs can afford effect rather more than just foreign goods. many american manufacturers who have factorie

the heaviest of rainfall overnight came through the north bay then swept through the rest of the bayeven though the north bay is comparatively quiet at the moment, there is still a lot of standing water on roadways. >> all across the northern part of the bay area where we're at sfo right now. you can absolutely see a very wet tarmac there yesterday. we already had delays on arriving flights just based on the winds today. absolutely. keep an eye on your flight status as we're likely to see even more delays to storm tracker. 4 is showing quite a lot of activity still working its way into the bay as we speak. much of that concentration of heavier rainfall has now made its presence known and the peninsula as well as the south bay, those areas of deeper, green and yellow. those your spots of heavier rain, as you well know and that is actively pushing into areas like sunnyvale and on up towards mountain view and even palo alto at the moment. so pockets of the 85 corridor as well as 101 releasing some heavy rain right now. if you don't have some areas of flooding in the south bay the next f

it's moving into the east bay, san francisco, and by midnight most of the bay area is getting wet. now. tomorrow morning's commute will include pockets of downpours that continues at 10 a.m. by 1:00. we are seeing some heavier returns here heading into the afternoon and evening. some heavier rain continues going into the evening commute. it's going to be really nasty, so if you could stay off the roads, probably a good idea. 7:00 in the south and east bay and by 9 p.m. it's on its way out and you get this clearing by 11 p.m. rainfall estimates this is going to be more evenly distributed, as that atmospheric river soaks the bay area. you're looking at rainfall that will range anywhere from an inch and a quarter in livermore to four and a half, a little over 4.5in of rain in yountville, santa cruz mountains, picking up as much as six inches of rain by the end of the week. the winds gusty tonight at 11 p.m, over 40 miles an hour along the coast. winds remain gusty. you can see even over 50 miles an hour going into tomorrow afternoon. 56 there and then really continuing through the aft

well as the east bay. that includes the manor neighborhood in where crews were forced to shut down power. neighbors say they're used to this happening during storms because the wind whips through the canyons off the ocean and just creates a pretty dangerous situation. >> i heard a explosion sound, but it's something that we for probably 3 times recently in the last few months. and i assumed it was the transformer just down the street and our lights flashed a little. but we still have power feeling lucky right now. i am feeling very is howling is pretty typical for our coastal storms. yes, it is. and we get hit hard. i don't think people realize that we get coastal lands and they ripped through every one of the missing either their fences or tree limbs will be down. so >> it happens. it does indeed happen happening today. crews expected to be out there monitoring the situation through the storm tonight. we're of course, going to continue to monitor the situation as well here on kron 4. stick with us on air

bay. the thing here is though, we are looking at this atmospheric river sitting offshore and a lot of this energy that is sitting well out in the pacific ocean right now is actually about to be impacting us more and more. all that cloud cover out there is going to be that uptick in rainfall that makes its way into the picture as we move into the latter part of your day today. so you will have a midday low and at least rainfall intensity. but we have already seen very heavy rain overnight. and now with that, we do have that ponding on roadways, poor drainage areas expect water to be piled up there. the herd of routes like 101 both on the peninsula into the north bay having some localized flooding. temperatures are in the 50's right now. conquered at 55 oakland. 54 sonoma right at 50 degrees. as we do move into the afternoon, we will again see a little bit of calming effect happening right around noon time today. late morning. but then rainfall really kicks right back into gear. right in the

but today still a wind advisory for those who are in the peninsula, the east bay in the south bay. you can see it's been dropped for the north bay, but even so i have to say we're getting plenty of wind there right now with that cell that is working its way through. so these heavier showers are going to continue to roll through this afternoon. but notice by the time we get to about 6 o'clock, we're really talking about east bay and south bay, north bay getting some clearing and then it gets better as the night goes on. so this is about 08:30pm, tonight. there's a break, right? there is the break now. doesn't mean we can't get a shower or 2. on wednesday. we absolutely can. but nothing compared to what we're seeing today and nothing compared to the danger of a severe thunderstorm warning that's out for the north bay right now. this is thursday. we do have additional rain that we expected on thursday. not going to be quite as pervasive as what we're seeing now, but it will be adding water on top of water. so basically we've got about a half an inch left to pick up today and then on t

nbc bay area's marianne favro spoke to bay area businesses preparing for the fallout. from contractors to restaurants like this one in campbell. bay area businesses are bracing to pay more for supplies. it's a cost that will likely be passed on to you. fresh avocados are a main ingredient in many of the dishes at rico's in campbell. the manager says she's already paying 80 bucks for a box of avocados, and is worried that price will increase significantly because of newly ordered 25% tariffs on products from mexico, and builders are bracing for increased costs of lumber after trump ordered a 25% tariff on goods from canada. a vice president of a dairy construction in san jose says that will likely mean the cost of new construction and remodels will go up. we try to do the best tha we can not to bring it over into the customer as well, but it's not really a overhead cost that we can play with as much. so at the end of the day, the customer would probably end up seeing about an 8% increase as well. this morning on social media, president trump acknowledging will there be

returning to the north bay.r everyone, but this evening we'll watch the north bay very closely as the ground is saturated in. this heavy rain will likely cause some issues. so looking at the flooding concerns over the next two days, this morning they're pretty much nonexistent because it's pretty quiet out there this evening. those concerns start to go up in the north bay because the rain returns. and then tomorrow morning we see that rain spread area wide, and that could lead to a messy tuesday morning commute. but it's tuesday evening. we will track very heavy rain across the entire region. that means everyone is fair game for flooding, especially on our roads and smaller streams and creeks. so tomorrow evening this becomes a level three, a strong storm as we see heavy rain across the entire area, some strong winds as well. so that flood watch is posted for everybody and we could see some trees come down and also some power outages. so look at the rain coming our way over the next 36 hours. and when you see tw

healdsburg, north bay community. some places picked up upwards of 8 to 12 inches of rain, especially on the highest elevations. healdsburg nearly nine inches. closer to the santa cruz mountains, 6 to 7 inches and that will be the name of the game since friday. and these rainfall totals will continue to get higher for us as they are not done yet as you could see on the window behind us, it is still raining there in san francisco. over three inches of rain has fallen since friday. but how much has fallen in the past 24 hours? it is quite a lot. and take a look at that. again, we've seen over two inches of rain here in san francisco in just the past 24 hours. and hopefully you could get a better view of these numbers because they're impressive. these are 24-hour rainfall totals. san francisco, over two inches of rain and also over two inches of rain. san rafael, over three inches of rain. again in the past 24 hours, that's a very good amount, and that is the reason why we saw so much flooding that saw those amounts in j

welcome to nbc bay area news at 4:30. we've been telling you about this storm for days now, and now the brunt of it is finally here. we're going to start in sonoma county, where people are back in their homes after a mudslide sent this house floating down the russian river. it happened shortly after noon on west side road in forestville. luckily, no one was inside that house when it slid into the river. surrounding homes were evacuated until it was deemed for those people to return home. people are dealing with flooding all around the bay area. this is highway one just south of point reyes in marin county. that road is closed, but you can see some people taking their chances and driving through flood waters. the chp strongly advising against that. also in the north bay, crews were quick to break up these large boulders that slid off a small hill into the roadway on montgomery drive. that is about ten minutes from downtown santa rosa. and take a live look outside. right now you can see it's really wet. rain slick roads all

in the north bay. the dea work together with the sonoma sheriff's narcotics unit and made 2 arrests. one in santa rosa and the other in rohnert park. they arrested 2 people on state and federal charges relating to the sale and distribution of drugs. the dea and this narcotics unit allege of both men are major drug dealers in sonoma county. and when officers searched their homes, they allegedly found 11 pounds of fentanyl and 3 and a half pounds of meth. both suspects were booked into the sonoma county, a tope detention center. now to nation's capitol on the senate judiciary committee met today to discuss the dangers of fentanyl and the put pieces of legislation that would permanently classify it and related substances as a schedule. one drug right now, fentanyl is a schedule. 2 drug and there's an iowa republican chuck grassley and also and illinois democratic senator durbin who says this needs to happen. we'll hear from them later on. now scheduled one drugs are those that have no currently accepted m
