and as you can see, that plume of moisture, that atmospheric river reaches all the way back to hawaii. so for the next several days, four or 5 or 6 days, we're going to have a steady flow of moisture in our direction, bringing us stormy day after stormy day. right now, the current storm ranks a level two on the exclusive abc seven storm impact through this evening. the rain will be a little bit lighter than it has been earlier in the day. isolated downpours, gusty wind. but still. this is a level two storm because even as the rain eases up, the impact is significant. we have a flood watch in effect for the entire bay area. here's the forecast animation starting at 5 p.m. notice for this evening and going into the late night hours. the rainfall will be mainly a north bay event. very little of that is going to reach south of the golden gate between now and midnight, and even during the overnight hours, it remains generally a north bay event. but the north bay is more saturated than any other part of the bay area, so the likelihood of flooding is greater there from the continuing rainfal

it's actually arcing all the way back to hawaii. you can see it's directed toward northern california, including the bay area. so that will bring in a healthy dose of moisture tomorrow morning into the afternoon hours, some scattered rain showers. and then for sunday, the bulk of the action could be focused up in the north bay. and then it moves across the heart of the bay area later in the day, monday and into tuesday. rainfall projections through wednesday will be adding up in the coastal hills of the north bay. could be around 8 to 10in. down in the south bay could be around 2 to 3in. so there's a lot of rain. and especially for the monday tuesday we'll have to keep an eye on things because that's what we're already adding some water to the creeks and streams right now, but we're going to add more into early next week. here's the satellite where you can see hawaii's way back here. here's this moisture plume going across the pacific and focused in northern california, as i mentioned, and already producing some rainfall today, but

they do see some snow in hawaii a few times of the year.o some of the highest peaks in the big island have been experiencing some snowfall. stormtracker then a little closer to home. you can see all the precipitation. a lot of it really from the oregon border southward run right across the bay area. so the forecast models had actually, but it a little bit higher. but now it's in our area. it has triggered a flood watch. that's in effect through 10 o'clock tomorrow night. in addition, we've got wet and windy weather today. a little lighter showers tomorrow and again, wet and windy on monday. so it's going to be something because we also have gusty southerly winds and this really impressive receipt, oranges and reds. my goodness, gracious half moon bay. 31 mile per hour gusts. but to give a also in the in some parts of the napa valley as well as down toward the peninsula and the east bay. look at concord, very gusty winds. 29 there. 31 livermore as we go through the weekend, then prepared for the gusty winds as well as the wet weather. batten

this stretches way back from hawaii towards the bay area. and it is just that a river in the sky. it's tapping into this more tropical air. and that's what makes these so different. you know, not every storm we see is an atmospheric river. so when we get them, it's that tropical air it's tapping into. that really helps to just kind of ratchet things up to the next level. so with this in place saturday into next tuesday, we're going to undergo these on and off rain chances. but there's also something else happening down at the surface. and it's two different stationary fronts. so they're just that they're very still to very slow moving. and this is why our rain totals we think at this point in some spots could range anywhere from 2 to 3in. so let's take it into the radar scan right now. and you can see the coverage here is pretty widespread with some light to moderateain. so be careful out there tonight. in terms of the wet weather. we'll keep those rain chances certainly through 11:00 with some light to moderate rainfall. but really the main event, as we've been saying with this,

it extends thousands of miles out in the pacific, has its origins near hawaii. this is a classic pineapple express setup directing that channel of moisture towards the west coast. some of that moisture gets squeezed out over the bay area and more over the sierra. let's look at where this radar stands right now. we've been in this little break in the action the past couple hours, but there are light to moderate showers trying to make their way in and there's more rain back out over the ocean that will continue making its way in the next several hours. this is not problematic. it's enough to make the roads wet, which is a concern when we've been dry for several weeks. the oil and transmission fluid, whatever cars drop along the way, kind of gets reactivated and makes the roads slick. the light to moderate rain becomes moderate to occasionally heavy rainfall. watch for the yellow on the map indicating heavier rainfall rates around sunrise and moving through the first several hours of daylight tomorrow. you're not going to see much daylight. there's not much sunshin

as you see it's originating from hawaii.t's a sign of a very strong atmospheric river that's going to continue to pump moisture into the united states. especially for us here in san francisco. we've seen a lot of that water vapor across the west coast. this nose of water vapor will continue to move up and down, up and down the west coast of the united states. and as it does so, it will be bringing us waiverring amounts of moisture. it's definitely not going to be a rain all day every day scenario by any means. and, that's exactly what we're seeing this morning. north bay communities are seeing the bulk of the activity. the bum -- the bulk of the action. that's going to be the activity the next 24 hours. there's going to be a big change monday into tuesday. >>> now to a developing story out of philadelphia. a medical plane crashed shortly after take off on friday killing at least six people. setting homes on fire. it comes just a day or two after a deadly midair collision between a u.s. military helicopter and passenger plane

you can see where that atmospheric river is setting upbringing moisture all the way from hawaii and justrring it. funneling it along that fire hose of moisture all the way to us here in the bay area. northern california, definitely getting in on the bulk of it right now. but we will also get in on that over the next several hours. this is what we've seen over the next 24 hours. again northern parts of california definitely getting in on the majority of the action. we are expecting this fire hose of moisture to set up especially as we step out over the next several hours. we're likely, this is about 4 hours from now. going to continue to see again a lot of of that activity streaming south ward. that snow is going to be heading farther south. quite a lot of activities along the way. that is really, really great news for them. fresh powder up across the sierra. if you want to go out to the fresh powder and enjoy yourself, i don't blame you. by next week, look at how much additional snow is possible. over 80-inches right now forecast for the northern parts of the sierra. i'll let you know ex

lining up, bringing us a lot of moisture stretching through the pacific, stretching into parts of hawaii. so here we go. our next system that could potentially be a little bit more dangerous is as we go on into monday and tuesday, there it is, filling in possibly heavy spots of rain through the santa cruz mountains and that snow that just continues through the sierra, where we're accumulating more of that fresh powder. we go on into wednesday, we see a little bit of a break, but the systems continue as we go on into thursday and friday. we wanted rain. well, here it is as we went through the last couple of days, taking it into next week. now, as far as rain totals this weekend. looking good. 1 to 2 in the north bay, san francisco south about a quarter inch to half an inch. but there's where we start to pile up more of those totals. some of those legends going off of the charts there through the north bay, maybe five plus inches up, and then 2 to 3 for the rest of the bay area. so we're finally going to get a good use of our rain gear, our rain boots. we'll see the showers for today, tomo

and you can see the fetch of moisture all the way back towards hawaii and through the overnight hoursit of a break. and right now light rain getting going all across the north bay over into concord. walnut creek, very light and nothing happening in the east bay and south bay. flood watch through tomorrow night, where this entire area could see anywhere from 1 to 3in of rain. so we're looking at gusty winds, moderate to heavy rain today. minor urban flooding. temperatures are up from the mid to upper 50s in some spots, so that brings us anywhere from oh 5 to 11 degrees milder from novato to livermore. so as the rain gets going throughout the mid morning hours, say 10:00 to 11:00, that's when we're going to see the heavier rain through noontime, 1:00 in the east bay getting into the south bay. but after 2:00 it shifts to the north and we'll see a break throughout the rest of the day. today, for much of us, except the north bay, we'll add up rainfall totals for the weekend and into next week, which are more impressive than even this weekend. stephanie. >> shut it down. >> if we don't get

and this is all coming from hawaii. the southwestern trajectory of this is allowing for the moisture to continue being pumped up into the bay area. they've had over three inches of rain per hour in parts of maui. so big problems there. but back home, as we take you into the bay area, you can see the heavier rain in the north bay. it has been light and scattered throughout much of the day. it is beginning to fill in light rain over into the east bay and you'll notice out towards the delta. now this is a warm system so snow levels are high. we do have a flash flood watch through sunday. we could see anywhere from 1 to 3in of rain in general, five inches at the highest elevations. e are looking at this level one tonight to kind of give us periods of rain, some downpours outside. you can see the raindrops on the lens and the golden gate bridge. not too bad right now, 40s and 50s outside, but there is fog, so visibility is reduced. in our inland valleys we have breezy winds that will continue and the rain throughout the even
