we've heard that keir starmer has spoken to zelenskyy immediately after the call. he has also spoken to president trump and also to hearing from nato secretary mark rutte, who has said today that he believes zelenskyy has to fix his relationship with president trump and the senior american leadership team. so clearly, a signal in public here from the same european countries that in great length and great publicity, voiced their support for ukraine immediately after these extraordinary scenes in the white house. now, i think publicly realizing that they really need to go forward with the trump administration at their back. zelenskyy saying that he believes this can be resolved. we simply have to see what is doable in this european leaders meeting. they really have never had to conceive the notion of their collective security without the united states being with them. that's not necessarily off the table here. last week, trump said that he would have the united kingdom's back. he has very cordial relations with france's emmanuel macron. but europe's position is so di

prime minister starmer saying any peace agreement is going to need a us backstop. what could the terms of this deal look like? and do you think starmer and macron can convince president trump to come on board with it? >> well, i think that's precisely the problem that we're dealing with now. you know, the governor mentioned the tariff situation. how can how can leaders and other countries trust what donald trump tells them when he continues to go back on agreements that he's already made? the united states is now stepping out of this process. just last administration, we were leading this process to get ukraine, the peaceful security guarantees that it's looking for. we're now abdicating that responsibility. and so we're leaving it into other people's hands. thankfully, the european countries like the uk, like france and others see the real threat that russia is not just to europe, but to the international, international rules based order. and that's critical to be eyes wide open about who we're dealing with. vladimir putin has shown us time and time and time again

you saw keir starmer there, very warm reception for president zelenskyy. he came out onto downing street here. he hugged him. he greeted him in person. we're also seeing more symbolism today where zelenskyy will be meeting with king charles. this was a hastily arranged meeting, which i think highly symbolic, given the fanfare we saw on thursday when prime minister starmer presented president trump with an invitation from king charles for another state visit, which he described as unprecedented. so a similar sort of honor being afforded today to president zelenskyy, a sign of the uk's solidarity. but i think we're going to be seeing the european leaders and the uk prime minister in particular moving beyond that symbolism today into real, concrete action. they now have to walk this tightrope. on the one hand, of trying to repair the relationship between the u.s. and ukraine, trying to figure out if that can even be done. i think one important player in that we will see arriving here in downing street later is the italian prime minister, giorgia meloni, a key

and so what came out of this meeting today, according to prime minister keir starmer, is that the uk, france and others will work together with ukraine to try and figure out a plan to stop the fighting. they will then present that plan to president trump. we don't know a timeline on when that's going to happen, but that came out of the meeting along with creating something called the coalition of the willing. so starmer says that this is european allies have have realized that they need to increase defense spending. and those who can will they will do so. how much? which countries? details of the sort have not come out yet, but this is something that he says they're working on with urgency. he also went on to say that they are going to keep military aid flowing to ukraine. they intend on keeping economic pressure on russia. he went on to say that, you know, when asked about peacekeeping, that the united kingdom is committed to putting boots on the ground in ukraine once a cease fire deal is met, and having air support in the in the air. of course, all of this coming after that fiery s
