dagen: patrice, jump in. patrice: good morning, mr. vitiello.cking prevention month. i can't believe that because right now at the southern border we are seeing such ridiculous numbers of sex offenders coming in, you know, fiscal year 2021 almost 500 convicted sex offenders, far greater than the past couple of years many can you talk to us. i mean, what is the way to really prevent human trafficking at the southern border? what should president biden and vice president kamala harris be doing? >> it's a very good point. we have to have policies that don't encourage people to come into the united states, we have to have policies that don't send a message around the world that says if you're in the country illegally, then i.c.e. or the border patrol is not coming after you. the policies that existed prior to january 20th, '21 was if you came to the border and claimed asylum, you had to wait in mexico for your hearing. and what that did is that brought the activity level down to only the people who were most in need of coming to the united states. t

dagen: patrice, jump in. patrice: yeah.t traffic in as well as recruiting workers and then in the long term do you continue to -- do you think you'll be expanding or changing how you fill your workforce needs, maybe using automation? >> well, i think it's different across different categories. certainly on the qsr side of things, delivery and to-go has been something in fast casual where we've never seen higher numbers, delivery and to go went up to 85 when there were restaurant closures. you've had a huge increase of visible into delivery and to-go. and we have other brands for delivery out of kitchens, that's a way to leverage real estate. as far as the delta variant goes, we are not seeing a decline in foot traffic in our restaurants or in our sales, our casual dining brands have been up between 10 and 18%. our fast casual up as much as 12%, that's like the burger brands. twin peeks has see a similar lift in sales. i think we're not feeling it. twin peaks has a lot of restaurants located in texas, florida, georgia. they'

maria: patrice, jump in here. >> good morning, everybody. know, adam, curious about consumer sentment. from what i understand the commerce department found personal savings foal a new all -- fell to a new all-time low. people are worried because of recession worries. do you see that changing over the next quarter or the next week, with investors are and how they think consumers view the economy. >> i hear you. we've been dealing with all kinds of emotions in a macro sense and the fact that it costs so darn much. gasoline, i don't need to tell you about that. there's an interesting narrative. i think you just really tapped into it. if you look at the data from last week, it's a good news/bad news situation. the savings rate was down probably because we're spending -- we're having to spend more money on all the stuff you're talking about. but the income was up. so spending was up more than income which means we're starting to draw down savings and you kind of hate to see that because consumer balance sheets are so strong right now. but at leas

what about your wife, patrice? is there a character that reflects her at all? no. but the themes that are in this book are hers, and i tried to really highlight the importance of family we show in this book an arrangement that's fairly common between couples that aren't married when they have a child that i learned about from patrice, who's trained as a marriage and family therapist, they nest. and so the young daughter stays with the mom and the couple alternates on weeks staying at the mom's house. they nest and she suggested putting that in. i thought, what a cool idea to show the family can be nontraditional, but also really good for kids. there's a lot of that in there. so people who know my wife will feel her presence in there, but there's not a character that she's allowed me to based on her. are you in have you been a a thriller reader over the years? no. i tried, but i found it. i can remember reading tara's book presumed innocent in 87, just as i was about to become an assistant u.s. attorney. and i was lit on fire by the book. i thought, this is so cool.
