this is around culpepper. even one is around central sections of stafford county. they're moving up to the east and little bit to the north. right now nothing is severe. we can easily see something strong later on this evening, and maybe even severe, i don't expect a widespread severe weather outbreak. but let me show you something here. these have come down in intensity a little bit. where you have the reds and the oranges, this is just to the southwest of culpepper. this is very, very heavy rain and we see lightning in all of this, too. definitely thunderstorms. then a little bit farther to the east there for stafford county, right along i-95, north of fredericksburg, there's a pretty good storm there as well. this one looks stronger. that may be producing a little bit of hail now. all of the movement now with these storms, to the east and northeast, there's nothing specific right around the city here. so we don't have to worry about that right now. let me show you the forecast for this evening. what we're thinking, there's the possibility of a few showers around

begin with the desperate search for answers in the death of a woman who was shot and killed by a culpepper, virginia police officer. a wrongful death lawsuit has been filed against that officer tonight. back in february patricia cook was shot several times at a school parking lot. the officer claimed she tried to hit him but as julie carey reports, some witness accounts just don't add up. >> if there was ever a case of what would appear to be excessive force this would seem to be it. >> that's how this attorney describes what happened to 54-year-old patricia cook. it's been three months since she was shot to death during a confrontation with the culpepper police officer as she sat unarmed in her jeep in a church parking lot. a special investigative grand jury is in the process of sorting through the conflicting reports to determine whether the shooting was justified or whether the officer should be criminally charged. but attorneys representing cook's widower gary say they are tired of waiting and they've decided to bring a wrongful death lawsuit against the officer daniel harmon-wright. >

the culpepper police department fired daniel harmon wright after an internal investigation into the shooting death of patricia cook. harmon wright claimed he shot in self-defense after cook tried to drive off with his arm caught in the car's window. he was indicted on a murder charge last month. he is out on bond, due back in court next month. >>> he stopped the wrong guy. a maryland man charged tonight with impersonating a police officer after he pulled over. a police officer. police say anthony maestro giovanini flagged down a car in upper marl brie. a capital heights police officer was inside the vehicle. the officers say the man claimed he was a military police officer from louisiana. the officer told him he had no jurisdiction. he was later arrested. >>> yesterday's heat was oppressive? today we broke a record. temperatures hit nearly 100 degrees. good news is, the end is in sight. comes with a few storms though. an up sedate from sue outside in the heat, still. >> brian, it's going tonight with a bang tomorrow.

it has been developing and growing over culpepper county. there's a close-up view of the radar and this storm is beginning to develop and is pushing off to the south and east. right now raining really hard in culpepper county as well as just about to move into spotsylvania county moving east at about 35 miles an hour. the towns affected over the next half hour or so probably into fredericksburg in 35, 40 minutes or so. this going to continue to track off to the east. we may get others, too, popping up here as we do get into the rest of the afternoon and into the evening hours, into mid-evening and late evening, we still have the possibility of more of these storms popping up, and we have got the heat in place, too. this entire yellow area is a severe risk zone. you can see it covers all of virginia, all of maryland, in west virginia. this is all the way into the evening and perhaps after midnight tonight. a risk for some of these strong storms. it's going to be getting along cooler and settled for sunday. details 0en that. we'll look at the
