the search for sierra is now a search for her body. at a news conference this morning sheriff lori smith offered new details into the arrest of 21-year-old antolin garci garcia-torres accused of kidnapping and killing the morgan hill teen. smith says sierra was apparently targeted at random. we also learned today that investigators found dna from garcia-torres on lamar's clothing found not far from the home in the days after the disappearance. that link made a law enforcement data bank because of a prior arrest. garcia-torres has been under constant surveillance since march 28. investigators had hoped he would lead them to sierra. today, though, sierra's mother pled for the suspect to put her family at peace. >> i do have a plea to the perpetrator to please, please give the information if you have -- that you have to lead us to sierra, to help end this nightmare. i would like you to come forward and say where she is. >> sheriff smith says investigators initially had many suspects in the case but they now believe garcia-torres is the on

high and low for sierra lamar, missing since last friday. they've interviewed more than 100 people from bus drivers to field workers to transients focusing here in sierra's neighborhood just north of morgan hill. they've talked with hundreds of sierra's former and current classmates. detectives have interviewed and reinterviewed sierra's neighbors. all registered sex offenders within a 10-mile radius of her home have been contacted to verify their wrbts at the time she -- whereabouts to see where they were when she went missing. forensic analysis on her cellphone found in this field last weekend have not revealed anything. the phone and sierra's laptop computer are now undergoing more latent print analysis at the county's crime lab. hundreds of missing person fliers are going up all over the south county region helping to generate at least 150 tips to the sheriff's department with possible sierra sightings. at least 75 deputies are on this case and they are following up on every single one of those leads. >>> san francisco 's transit agency

. >> sierra lamar's mother holds out hope her daughter could be alive. even after investigators arrest a man for her kidnapping and murder. >>> good morning, thanks for being with us. i'm marla tellez. >> i'm jon kelley. this morning, we have developing and emotional news in the case of sierra lamar. this morning, the santa clara sheriff revealing details how the man now accused of murdering the morgan hill teenager is in their custody. the painstaking investigation laid out as sierra's family stood by, listening to this evidence, leading investigators to believe the teenager is no longer alive. we have team coverage. tony kovaleski has been looking into the investigation. christie smith has talked to the suspect's family, but we start with bob redell who is at the sheriff's news conference an hour ago or so. he has the case here against antolin garcia torres. >> reporter: good morning, jon. there was a revelation from the news conference the the sheriff's office considered him a suspect since march and have been following him since. the mother sent him

>> reporter: we begin with the sierra lemar arrest case, they broke the story and investigators will reveal more about the break in the case. overnight deputies released a booking photo of the suspect. he is 21-year-old garcia torres. officers arrested him at 6:00 yesterday and hours later ktvu channel 2 morning news got these exclusive pictures as he was taken to the jail. he was booked on charges of kidnapping and murder. we have learned dna evidence links him to the clothing in her purse. >> we have probable cause to believe he has committed the murder and kidnapping. >> we've also learned that the suspect owns the red jetta linked to sierra lemar's disappearance. they questioned torres for two hours about the missing teen. they are expected to reveal more during this morning's news conference. news is spreading quickly and the entire city is coming together in support of the sierra lemar family during this painful time. good morning allie. >> reporter: in the area where her family lives there are pink ribbons, a reminder that they have not stopped looking for sierra lemar, so des

you might recall the last sunday they found sierra's pink juicy purse inside sierra's undergarments and a pair of pants and shirt. both of those neatly folded. well that shirt is a sharks jersey or has some sort of sharks insignia on it and it's very similar to the one she took a computer photo of herself last friday morning before leaving her home. her mom is convinced that's what she was wearing when she left. now even though the sheriff's office has found no evidence of foul play, her mother says it's hard to keep her hopes up. >> it's just very convicting that there's something not right about this whole situation, you know, as far as her being gone this long and finding the items. it's terrifying, you know. i try not to think bad things and just, you know, please, you know, keep your strength, baby. i know you have it in you to survive this. >> reporter: we've seen a lot of still photos of sierra. well, this morning, we're getting our first glimpse of home video that the lamars released to us. it shows sierra bouncing on the family trampoline at the home with her mother and sister.

there were a couple pieces of evidence found at sierra sierra lamar's home when she was first reported missing. her back pack and inside was clothes. now, investigators did take some dna samples from the evidence that was recovered, that information still haven't been released on what they found in the clothes. >> anything else you can tell us about the suspect at this time or is that supposed to come out in the morning? >> reporter: it is all supposed to come out in the morning. we are just getting the information. it was e-mailed to us a half hour ago, all we know is antolin garcia-torres has been arrested in the case. >> reggie kumar reporting live, thank you. we have a time line of the search effort for sierra lamar. on friday, march 16 sierra lamar went missing after leaving her home headed for the school bus. on saturday the 17th police found her cell phone in a field. the next day crews found her purse with her clothes inside. and earlier this month, may 7 police located the red jetta with the black top they believe is connected to her disappearance. we have continuing coverage
