meteorologist kari hall tracking the radar all morning long. there are still more storms to come. >> yes. this is the third of four we're expecting this week. this one looks to linger a little longer than ones we've seen previously. it's also stronger with intense lightning just offshore and some very heavy rain moving through parts of the bay area right now, mainly the south bay and in parts of the east bay. as we get a closer look, we can see how wet it is out there. when you see the bright reds and oranges, that indicates very intense rain. let's get a look at just how heavily it's falling. this basically gives us an idea of the storms and where the most intense precipitation is happening. so rain at about 2.75 inches per hour. it's not lasting for an hour, but with it falling that fast and heavy, it creates low visibility, and the water just ponding on the roads and low lying areas. also up toward milpitas and fremont and approaching the tri-valley. let's check in with mike to see if it's slowing you down. >> not having as much of an impact

i'm meteorologist kari hall. we've issued a microclimate weather alert. rain will have the potential to cause flooding as we go into this afternoon. right now the storm is still far to the north of us but will be working its way into the bay area. we'll start to see that heaviest rain moving into the north bay as we go before noon. so here's a look at the time line and the futurecast shows the green indicating some light to moderate rain. we're waiting on that orange to yellow shade to indicate some heavy downpours by this afternoon into the evening. that will continue to move into the south bay later on tonight and will pour for several hours before wrapping up as we go into early tomorrow. look at all the microclimates today. it will still be a mild one with highs reaching into the upper 50s to lower 60s. 59 degrees in brentwood and pleasanton, a high of 62. once again that rain working its way from north to south. and in the meantime, we do have the possibility of getting at least an inch of rain. here's a look at how much rain we could see all through

let's get to kari hall tracking the weather conditions on the dangerous fire in lake county. >> good morning. we've been watching these conditions mainly because the weather has been shifting directions as far as the winds. we're looking at every level of the atmosphere this morning. here is clear lake. you see santa rosa. it's north of santa rosa. at each level of the atmosphere we see the wind from different directions. in one at 5,000 will be coming from the east. the surface wind will be coming from the west. it will spread the smoke across the bay area with a high of 97 expected. that will create some very hazardous conditions for the firefighters. and humidity during the middle of the day will drop down to 14%. very dry and breezy conditions with hot temperatures. not the best weather as firefighters try to get some containment on this wild fire. we'll continue to monitor these conditions. for now back to you. >> thank you very much. >>> a look at the sheer devastation that is hitting lake this morning. >> the so-called clayton fire tears through the town of lower lake. homes w

kari hall has her mind right. sonoma wine country forecast. >> we enjoy great weather as we head into the weekend. take advantage of all there is to do here and a slight chance of rain today and again on sunday and that shouldn't ruin your outdoor plans. heading to monterey, upper 60s to lower 70s in santa cruz at the boardwalk and 71 degrees and 68 degrees and a few more clouds heading into sunday. over the next couple of days, we only have some slight rain chances and many weather systems staying to the north of us and looks like we won't get our next significant chance of rain until maybe next thursday. we will see more of this dry weather, but then hopefully after this we start to see more of those storms starting to roll in. i'll keep an eye on that and let's see what's happening now as you head across the south bay with mike. >> first we'll start with a live shault of s shot of san jose. 4:54 in the morning. we'll look at the map and we have such great speeds over the bay. overnight closure and same thing we

let's check with kari hall. >> we'll see it moving into the north bay first. we're already seeing the rain coming down. it will get heavier as we go into the later morning hours and early afternoon. you can see now where that rain is pouring in northern sonoma county and moving towards santa rosa at this point and some light rain just south of there. it's already making the ground wet, and we will have the potential for some street flooding as this continues to move slowly to the south. and we will see some pockets of very heavy rain, gusty winds. at times gusting close to 50 miles an hour, so that could down some trees and power lines, something we'll be watching throughout the morning and early afternoon. as we head over to mike, chp will be busy today. >> they've been prepping since yesterday -- actually we've been prepping for a good number of days. so far the roadways are moving well. we'll watch as the build continues on highway 17. late in december we tend to see a lighter commute. we should see a good opportunity for you to slow it down. fog registerin

kari hall joining us. it will be mild today and thenny heats up. >> it starts tomorrow and take in today and the nice, comfortable weather. the only thing we had to deal with this morning, some patchy fog. we are seeing that as we take a live look at the golden gate bridge. right along the coast and now developing in parts of the north bay. as we get a look at temperatures now, 54 degrees a mild start. 55 degrees in the north bay and close look at the south bay now. 53 degrees as you head out the door in santa theresa. 50 degrees in silver creek valley and santa clara also at 50 degrees. windy today. we start out with those winds rushing in from the north at about 15 to 20 miles an hour. check out half moon bay. winds at about 30 miles an hour and maybe some higher gusts. we will haveilate a little bitn onshore flow and that's why the temperatures stay in the 60s. tomorrow the wind blow off as high pressure builds and the temperatures will start ramping up. . today up to 77 degrees in gilroy and 68 degrees

i know kari hall has been reporting other flashes. this is in the golden gate bridge, the northern part of san francisco. the richmond district area. at least according to our doppler radar, which gives you a sense. that is where a lot of the rain is right now we know there is a light in livermore and the concord o, martinez and perhaps in the bay bridge area, as well. but, again, we've been driving throughout the morning and we've been on the roads, i have been on the road since 3:30. livermore through castro valley and down to san jose and across the dumbarton bridge and back to 880 and now to castro valley and, again, the rain has been intermittent at best and when we cross the dumbarton bridge, the winds were light. we are in a high-profile vehicle and not a situation where we're getting tossed about. good news if you're trying to get on the road and get out to work, you'll have to deal with the normal grind of traffic, but at least in the areas i was just mentioning, we're not seeing the weather having a tremendous impact. that b

right now, let's check in with kari hall. she's been really monitoring the radar. >> it is pretty much covered at this point. we are seeing rain all across the bay area and as we take a look at the clouds streaming in from the west, well, that means that there is still more moisture to move in. so, i do exthis for another fpe next five or six hours until it starts to taper off. in the meantime we have rain still heavy in some spots. in some areas we have rainfall rates that are coming down at about 0.1 to maybe 0.25 inch per hour but that is enough to create some water just standing on the roads. and when you see the bright yellows and reds, that shows the more intense rain. we could see that by 8:00 in the morning in the east bay also for the peninsula and moving into the south bay later on. so, the rain timeline still shows that we will have rain in and around the bay area. at least until noon and then it starts to clear out as that storm system moves off to the east. we'll have another one right behind that. so, i'll detai

meteorologist kari hall monitoring those storms latest path. when can we expect the wet weather to let up a little bit. >> even during the main morning commute, 8:00, 9:00, we will still have the heavy rain rolling through parts of the bay area. we also have the concern of flooding as we've eocene some waves of bright intensities here on the radar with some yellows and some reds. that shows where it is really coming down. so, as you head out this morning, maybe hitting some puddles and the windshield wipers are up on high. as we go into the rest of the morning, we still see some more of this rain coming down. the green shows a steady, moderate rain, but then, once again, it gets the brighter the color the more intense. we are looking at the possibility of some rainfall accumulations through noon. over an inch, over 1.5 inches for union city over 0.5 of rain. it does taper off as we go into the afternoon. let's see how the roads are moving now with mike. >> the roads are moving well but the conditions are not good. over here towards 880 and rain

coverage with meteorologist kari hall. when do we get the next rain? >> expecting rain very soon here, scott. it seems to be the atmosphere's juicy. today was supposed to be our break from the rain but we're already starting to see some of those showers and thunderstorms developing farther off to the north. heavy rain approaching santa rosa, past clearlake, solano county as well. we see rain billowing up here in the last couple of frames. looking closely at these showers that have developed and those heavy downpours as we go into the rest of the day. now, we are looking at potential of some of this moving into san francisco. later on this afternoon with a quick moving shower, and that could approach parts of the east bay as well. they may be cleaning up that train derailment in some of the spotty showers that will be moving through. expecting heavier rain as we go into early tomorrow morning. i'll give you updates on that and heavy downpours expected before the weekend. that's coming up later. >>> commuter train from san jose to stockton will not be in

i'm meteorologist kari hall. we start out with some raindrops. some times we'll be taking a break. still slick roads and scatters rain will continue as we go through the day. we're looking at another round of rain, mainly light rain early on monday. on wednesday, a stronger storm will be moving in. we'll talk about all of that. let's take a look at the fourth storm system of the week. it's covering the entire state with a little bit of light rain. we're looking at swirls further off to the west that will be working its way in as we go through the day. still expecting more waves of light rain. moisture moving in and some of the rain has moved off to the east. we're taking a little bit of a break. it's 49 in oakland. santa rosa, 47. san francisco, 50. it's mild temperatures. a look at how much rain we've had already in some spots. just some trace amounts up to .10 in some areas. san francisco mostly .10 of an inch around forest hill. and then as we go to the east bay, lighter amounts. you haven't seen the rain as long and it has been fizzling out a
