advisory for the entire area, we have a wind chill advisory. northwest of d.c. in the single digits below zero sometimes this morning. snow has fallen. on the average we have had 1-3 inches across the metro area. just a couple of flurries over to parts of maryland and the eastern tread. this all wanting down in terms of snowfall, but it is still blowing in parts of new england. we got a pretty easy overall because it had about four inches so far new york city. 13.5 in boston and blizzard conditions out on the cape as well into long island. those winds are gusting around 40 plus miles per hour. visibility is less than a quarter-mile. ~ warnings across the northeast. stay home, don't travel in the northeast if you can help it. conditions will improve this afternoon when the wind starts to diminish. the cold is going to stick around through the day today and into tonight. current temperatures across the re region into the single digits. notice how the cold air has been spilling into our area and tomorrow morning it really will be the worst of the

again, the windchill advisory has expired. let's talk about this next weather system that is going to slide in later tonight. it is bringing snow and freezing rain to the deep south, from texas, continuing to move into the carolinas. the thing with this system is it will be relatively light, but it will impact against southern maryland. a winter weather advisory is in effect through early tomorrow. if you are traveling through the remainder of the day, you should not have any trouble getting out of the d.c. metro area, but if you are headed into the deep south, new orleans, charlotte, atlanta, that is where i expect delays. i have much more on the timing and accumulation of the next storm, coming up in just a little bit. >> turning to the impact of the deep freeze, thousands of flights are already canceled because of these subzero temperatures. southwest airlines says that 300 and 50 flights will not take off. d grounded close to 2000 flights. much of the country is dealing with frigid temperatures or a snowy and icy forecast.
