according to the alameda county alameda county fire department, the fire was not very involved and was put out pretty quickly. inside the home there were 20 dogs, two of 15 year old was rescued from the house, and the battalion chief was about to ask her basic questions about anything she may have observed said, hey, is that dog okay? it was a pit bull, male dominant pit bull. is that dog okay, on a leash? it was the only dog out of 20 on the leash and proceeded to ask some questions, she said yes, and for whatever reason, the dog jumped up and attacked our battalion chief. >> reporter: now, the attack lasted a while, but the dog eventually stopped. battalion chief whiting was rushed to the medical center in castro valley to be stabilized and was then taken to stanford medical center by california highway patrol escort for surgery. now, all of the dogs that were rescued from this fire, including the large pit bull that attacked whiting, they have all been taken into custody by alameda county animal control. reporting live in san leandro, nbc bay area news. >> thank you. >>> we are also
