alex savidge joins us live to tell us about the delays and the detours drivers can expect. alex?porter: sal, good morning to you. crews out here are making pretty good progress on the demolition portion of this project. let meet give you a look at what's going on behind us. these are the northbound lanes of 280 and crews are using jack hammers right now to tear apart a 24-foot wide section of the freeway and then once they remove all of the concrete in this area, workers will replace an important seismic safety hitch. this is critical work, but, of course, as we know this could cause a traffic mess during the long 4th of july weekend. caltrans says to prepare for drays up to an hour -- delays up to an hour. it's best to avoid this area or to use public transportation. the freeway closure began last night at 9:00. the work goes until monday morning. no cars will be allowed on the northbound lanes of 280. that will likely mean a lot more drivers using 101 to get into the downtown area. caltrans says this work needs to get done now. 280 has been beat up. it handles about 130,000 car

alex savidge is in our newsroom with an update on the investigation. alex. >> reporter: good morning to you. we have learned just of a new development. several news outlets are reporting ukrainian levels will let the ntsb and fbi into the country to examine that crash site in an advisory role. they are recovered 181 bodies so far but there are still more than 100 people unaccounted for this morning. malaysian airlines flight 17 was traveling from amsterdam to kuala lumpur. the flight was carrying a total of 283 passengers. malaysia airlines says 173 of them were dutch. this is video from ukraine where mourners there have created a shrine outside of the dutch embassy in kieve. others came from usa trail qua, belgium, canada, new zealand, southeast asia, and the united kingdom. the nationalities of the 20 other passengers have not been identified. there were 15 crew members and all of them were malaysians. many of the passengers were headed to this weekend's international aids conference in mel bourn, australia. and among the victims was a world renown re

as alex savidge explains, though, it involves changing some human behavior, right, alex?r: good morning to you, tori. the idea is to deal with the large squirrel population here at cesar chavez park in berkeley. this has been an ongoing problem in the area. this particular park is built on top of a landfill. those critters have been burrowing holes in the dirt here. there's concern that could lead to a toxic leak if they break through the clay cap that covers up this former dump. so the city of berkeley has made it a crime to feed squirrels and other animals in the park. this happened during the council meeting last night. originally the city was considering killing the squirrels but the council backed away from the idea after a public outcry. the council formed a special squirrel subcommittee to try to come up with another solution. that's when they decided the best way to control the critters was to simply have the public stop feeding them. once the new law takes effect, anyone tossing food to squirrels could face $1,000 fine and possibly six months in jail. over the ne

alex savidge is live at the airport now and you have reaction from the tsa on that incident. ood morning, alex. >> reporter: good morning to you. tsa officials are staying tight- lipped about this investigation. the agency right now is working hard to figure out how this passenger who was apparently drunk was able to fool other passengers into believing that he was a real security screener. it all happened at one of the checkpoints at the international terminal at sfo on tuesday. according to a law enforcement source, this is the man taken into custody 53-year-old eric slighton. investigators say he managed to pass himself off as a security screener directing a woman into a private woman where he apparently gave the woman a patdown. according to one published report, slighton seemed to dress the part. he was wearing khaki pants, a blue polo shirt and he had on blue rubber gloves. investigators say the man tried to do the same thing with a second passenger, another woman, but that's when a real security officer caught on and then notified airport police and slighton was then ta

alex savidge is live there with more on what was used to start the fire and the person who's been detainedg alex. >> reporter: good morning to you, and we're working right now to find out more information about the man who was taken into custody in connection with this fire that investigators believe was intentionally set. we understand that man is being questioned right now. the fire was here at terminal 1 at oakland airport, and this is what was burning this morning. it was this pile of wood and cardboard, and when this fire started initially, these construction materials were just inside the door to determinal -- terminal 1 in the baggage claim area. this fire was small and contained quickly by firefighters. shortly after the fire, alameda county sheriff's deputies took a man into custody here at the scene. we saw him in the become of a patrol car early this morning. a witness told me that man tried to escape after setting the fire. he even boarded a bus here at the airport, but deputies were able to stop him before he got away. this fire was first reported just after 3:00 this morning,
