ally rasmus is live -- allie rasmus is live. >> reporter: this is an unusual crime for the city. because of that, there is a real sense of urgency. they have got 18 officers on this case. right now they are in the process of interviewing the witnessness and the victims of the shooting. this is where the shooting happened. this is south q street and in livermore. it was around 12:30 and crime scene technicians are out here collecting evidence. few officers looking through the area and making sure they are not missing any evidence for the crime. it started with the house party here. there are about 20 people at the party. late teens and early 20s. three men from out-of-town showed up at the party. there was some sort of argument between the three men. the party guests and the three men were told to leave. they did. and 30 minutes later, a white sedan pulled up in front of the house and they opened fire. >> three women and two men. none of the victims have life-threatening injuries. all are expected to survive. all of the other people at the party this evening. and they still need m

ktvu's allie rasmus is live with what our investigation revealed. >> reporter: we went through two hours of recorders from that day. and we sat down with the police chief to talk about them. >> reporter: during a high- speed chase and shoot out on july 16, 71 police officers rushed to the scene. three hostages. one of the hostages was shot and thrown out of the vehicle within minutes. later another hostage was thrown out. that left one hostage inside the suv. misty holt-singh. >> reporter: was there confusion? >> well, it was intense. i don't know if any specific confusion. >> reporter: police chief agreed to answer questions about how his officers responded that day and why one of the hostages misty holt- singh was killed by police gunfire. when the bank robbery happened 2 police officers initially responded to the call. those officers saw three armed robbers walking out the bank with the hostage. the robbers went back inside the bank and came out with two more hostages, including misty holt-singh 467 -- >> all those things began to be put in place. before they were able to be in place

ktvu's allie rasmus found out what makes the case even more unusual is the victim and alleged attackerently did not even know each other. >> reporter: 2:00 a.m. on august 16th. people on wilson and clinton avenues in richmond woke up to a commotion outside. >> we had already gone to bed and just keep hearing a banging or something kind of hard to describe. >> reporter: cara found out later that something noise was the sound of a violent attack. >> the police officer said it was probably the gentleman's baseball bat hitting the car across the street. or hitting the woman. >> reporter: 53-year-old gregory thompson a walnut creek police officer is accused of beating a woman with a baseball bat. thompson is a 30 year veteran of the police department. the victim didn't know thompson she just happened to be walking through the neighborhood after her car ran out of gas. >> we don't have a motive in this case but we're looking at the possibility that maybe there was a mistaken identity. that maybe someone else was supposed to be targeted. we don't know at this point. >> reporter: the empty hom
