allie rasmus, ktvu fox 2 news. >>> call for change in the oakland unified school district. this followings the beatings of two students by security guards. protesters are demanding justess for the students -- justice for the students. ktvu's noelle walker is live. >> reporter: this isn't just a matter of one beating but several that have them concerned about student safety in the place where they are supposed to feel safe. an hour and a half ago 12 protesters gathered outside before the meeting to demand the firing of security guards who beat three students as well as the firing of principals at the schools and they want the superintendent removed. take a look at this. this is one example. one of the beatings got media attention last may after this surveillance video surfaced. a guard pushing a wheelchair bound student out of his chair, kicking him in the head and pulling him into an elevator. another angle shows him being slapped in the head and tossed out of the chair. he has been in a wheelchair most of his life for cerebral palsy is still a junior at oakland high school

let's go back to allie rasmus who's been there at the scene all morning long with the latest. >> mikearrived probably about half an hour ago. you can see the front of the apartment building where this happened is roped off. investigators are still on the scene here. this is where the fire started around 3:00 this morning. oakland firefighters say this is an old armory building that had been converted into apartments and firefighters say two people who lived in the apartment unit where the fire started died in that fire. at its worst this was a 3-alarm fire that took between 40 to 50 firefighters almost an hour to get it under control as flames soar through the roof of the building. investigators aren't releasing the names of the two people who died. according to several people who live in this building, one of the victims is a pretty well- known multimedia artist who lived and worked in his apartment on the top floor. the other victim his roommate who according to neighbors had just moved in a few weeks ago. now earlier this morning, a neighbor took us into her yard to show us the dam
