hi, tony and allison.we have a little update on the storm's location, it's about 50 miles south of new orleans. and that puts new orleans with violent wind gusts up to 80 miles an hour. the rain is continuing on here. one of the things that's so dangerous is because this storm is so slow-moving, we are going to be really staying in that northeast quadrant really not going to see any of these conditions cease anytime soon. we already have about 6" of rainfall within the city limits and we anticipate double if not triple that by the end of the storm. . >> i'm allison seymour. and we continue to track tropical storm isaac as it slowly moves in bringing heavy rains and strong winds. in louisiana, thousands of people are being evacuated from saint john the baptist parish because of major flooding. the national guard has been working with sheriff's deputies to rescue people who may be stranded in their homes. >> in nearby plaquemines parish, officials plan to intentionally puncture a floodwall to relieve growing pressure on one levee. meanwhile, in mississippi several national guard rescues were made. isaac spawned one tornado that destroyed several buildings and knocked down power lines. president obama has signed a disaster declaration for louisiana and mississippi. it speeds up federal aid and recovery efforts. about three-quarters of a million people are without power this morning, and the storm is blamed for at least one death. as the rain continues, officials are worried more flooding is possible. but officials in the big easy are happy about one thing.
