i'm ama daetz. investigators are running into resistance from rebels that are controlling the area and complicating efforts to bring home victims. karen traverse has more. >> reporter: the focus today was on collecting bodies. volunteers dragged up and bagged and trucked away remains of some of the 298 victims of flight 17. they will be brought to a morning, a stronghold for prorussia rebels. those rebels control the area where the plane crashed after being shot down on thursday. abc easterry is on the scene and reports that a few locals formed an unofficial perimeter around some of the wreckage. but there are no professional air crash investigators in charge. >> just a few feet off the road, one of the wings came down in this field and frankly, it is outrageous that we can get this close. this is evidence completely unsecured. >> reporter: the ukrainian government today accused rebels of removing bodies from the crash site, a charge one of their leaders besides. >> we already got the news today of

i'm ama daetz. we begin with developing news out of san francisco. police are searching for a hit-and-run driver after a vehicle slammed into a bus and took off. it happened about an hour and a half ago. two passengers say they were injured. witnesses told us several people were taken to the hospital, though police have not yet confirmed that. right now a crew is trying to determine if the bus was damaged. tonight there is no sign of a cease-fire in the middle east, and there was no let-up today in israel's air assault on hamas in gaza. israel also has thousands of troops on standby at the gaza border. they are ready to attack if hamas doesn't call off a missile barrage aimed at israelis. here is the latest from jerusalem. >> reporter: israeli commandos approach gaza in small boats. their target, hamas launchers used to attack israeli cities. israeli warplanes spent a sixth day bombarding targets inside gaza. they have now hit more than 1,300, and vow to stop only when hamas militants stop firing their rockets. the israelis blame civilian casualties

i'm ama daetz. don ashley is off tonight. it was mayham after a robbery. one of three women taken hostage was killed during the chase. her family identified the victim as misty sing, amir marcried mo of two. they were forced into a stolen suv after a robbery around 2:30 this afternoon. more than a dozen police cruisers chased the car as it flew across the streets of stockton. the suspects fired at them with a semiautomatic weapon and the police returned shots during the 45-minute long chase. during the chase, the suspects threw two hostages from the speeding car. we spoke to a witness that saw a victim. >> she was on the ground and my brother saw her and her leg was tore up and bleeding and the fire department wasn't there yet, nobody was there. the video was of driving by a big police suv type thing parked in the center divider and in front of him on the ground was a girl in gray, who was turning over and her leg was all bloody and he was standing over her and they were waiting for help. >> a third suspect was shot and is hospitalized. the condition of th

i'm ama daetz. nearly 90 gaza residents lost their lives today. 13 israeli soldiers were killed, the biggest one-day loss for the israeli army in years. united nations called an emergency meeting tonight and u.s. secretary of state john kerry will head to egypt tomorrow to seek a cease-fire. in san francisco today, a demonstration got pretty heated outside at temple emanuel in pleasant heights. people showed up by the dozens to support pro-israeli soldiers. this took place while a solidarity gathering was going on in the temple. and the other side said israel needs to stop columnizing palestinian neighborhoods. >> we support our country, our people no matter what happens. we'll do whatever we can to support our country. we're going to show everybody. >> they want you to think that this is being done in the name of the jewish community and that all jews support what israel is doing and we are saying, as forcefully as we can, that we condemn what's happening in gaza. it is against our jewish values. t

i'm larry did >> and i'm ama daetz. >> reporter: imagine university avenue at noon here in palo alto, busy, people walking and people having lunch outside. last thing anyone is expecting, of course, is to have a car plow into them but that's exactly what happened. palo alto police say the man, the driver, is in his 90s. >> you could hear the table smashing into each other and then people are actually screaming. >> this witness was there when the car plowed into the cafe in palo alto. >> the man in his 92s was attempting to parallel park in front of the restaurant and accidentally hit the acceleration instead of the brake, thus pushing the car up on to the curb and into the front of the restaurant. >> reporter: five people were injured, one critically. >> we've had one that is critical. we had three that were minor and then one was the walking wounded. the people that had major injuries were transported to stanford hospital. >> sky 7 hd caught the driver when he was escorted to another car to be questioned. police say alcohol was not a factor. this woman had just left her table at the
