little earlier, showing the massive number of protesters streaming towards the port of oakland, amber lee has more where the sea of people passed by not long ago. >> reporter: frank, we are along market street right by 7th. i want to show you this intersection, just a half hour ago this was blocked, cars couldn't go anywhere. because there was a very long line of protesters all making their way down to the port where mike mebak and eric were. i want to show you that there are still people moving, making their way down. we've seen people of all ages, young people, old people, people with their children and even people who say they couldn't march standing on the side with signs, saying we are the 99%. now as we are getting towards night fall, some of the protesters are expressing some concern to me that they didn't want people to cause trouble . they are putting out the word, urging people at the kaiser center and the wells fargo and other banks around the downtown area to please stay calm. they want to make sure the message gets across. and from this crowd that i can see so far things have

we begin tonight with amber lee and tonight's outpouring of sadness and grief, amber. >> reporter: mike people have been stopping here at police headquarters all night leaving flowers, candles and a balloon to pay tribute to the fallen officer. we've learned that officer jim capoot loved people in this community and reached out to them in a way that makes this loss deeply painful. around 6:30 tonight at kaiser hospital in vallejo, the body of officer capoot was taken away in a flag draped casket. a somber salute to a man who served the police department for 19 years. y ears. fellow officered were lined up and tried to console each other over this devastating loss. not far from the hospital, students at vallejo hospital received the news about capoot death. the officer had led their women's basketball team. students told us capoot's impact was great he was much more than a coach. >> he was like kind of like a father figure to some of the girls that doesn't have their father there like on the team. so yeah he was a good coach. >> reporter: students told us capoot had three daughters and t

amber lee is live at the hospital with video from the jail of the man in custody before he was takenthe hospital with a ruptured spleen. >> reporter: a hospital spokesman said the veteran remains in icu here in fair condition. his friend's have complained the veteran didn't get the quick medical attention he needed after he got into i tussle with law. the county sheriff says they have video to prove they did help him. >> as you can see he is walking, talking moving good. >> reporter: jd nelson said this is video taken early thursday when the veteran and others were processed and kept after they were arrested. 11 hours later this video shows him crawling into what is called a sobering cell when deputies decided to separate him after he complained of feeling sick. he said a nurse offers to give him medication but he declines. >> deputy comes back. says we will of month you to another cell. he reaches up for him. and he gets helped up. and he is able to walk off. >> reporter: the sergeant said after he is moved to another area he vomits a clear fluid and at that point authorities got co
