. >> reporter amy hollyfield is live with what she just learned moments ago from san francisco police. amy? >> reporter: hi, good morning. police did make an arrest here after having a standoff with a man. they are now here staging at this doughnut shop. their officers are here gathering evidence and wrapping up their case. three women went to a man's home willingly, they went home with him. when they wanted to leave they say he pulled a gun on them. they did manage to escape and waved down officers who then went to his apartment and tried to get him to come out. they say he was unresponsive for a couple hours. this all was going down about 2:00 this morning. they finally brought in the s.w.a.t. team. they had been trying to communicate with him and he was nonresponsive. they do think he was under the influence and may have passed out. they did finally go to his door, went in and they say he did surrender. they have him in custody and they have a gun in custody. now they're interviewing these women to wrap up their case. i don't have the name but the captain estimates he's about a 35-

abc 7 news reporter amy hollyfield is live for us this morning. g, amy. >> reporter: good morning. the water in this neighborhood has nowhere to go. we're hearing at least 12 homes were flooded. a look at what residents were dealing with after the rains came through here on saturday. this is the west portal neighborhood in san francisco. city officials say this area flooded because the is not big enough and they are working on plans to improve the situation but a new, larger system will take at least another year to put in place. rsidents are cleaning up. it's not just water they are worried about. >> she's wearing a hazmat suit. that was a foot deep in my master bedroom. why am i not in a hazmat suit? >> reporter: there was raw sewage throughout here as well. west portal supervisor norman ye is now calling on the city to speed up plans to upgrade the storm drains and sewer system. people who live here in the neighborhood say this has apd before, a few times. they are worried they are being ignored and forgotten by the city. reporting live in san f

amy hollyfield is in the west portal neighborhood. >> they're having quite a few problems with these new trains. this issue is the pins that hold the trains together what this means for you if you're a muni rider is trains will be crowded today. they're not using as many cars as usual. muni will be running about a dozen trains with just one car instead of two. the report says the pins that hold the trains together need to be replaced. the manufacturer is sending new pins and is paying for the replacements. the company, semem siemans is a redesigning the pins. muni bought 68 new trains in the last year from the new company. they had to fix the new brakes on the trains, add sensors to the doors and next year will need to replace the bench seats. muni is calling this problem short-term and says to expect only crowded trains today. that's what they're saying as of right now as they wait for those pins to arrive. reporting live in san francisco, amy hollyfield, abc7 news. >>> joe biden will be in the bay area today for a pair of fund-raisers, one held in palo alto, the other in san franci

amy hollyfield is live at the larkspur station with more on that. amy? >> hi, reggie. i'm at the station, you take your train here, you park. and then you just take this foot bridge and walk over to the larkspur ferry for a lovely ride into san francisco. so the hope is that this will connect commuters who live up in sonoma, napa, northern marin county down here to their jobs in san francisco. but smart trains have had money problems. those issues have delayed the opening of this larkspur station. the station was approved by voters 11 years ago in 2008. so this is one of two new stations that will be opening. the other is in downtown novato. that will be open there as well for smart train. services start at these stations tomorrow. they'll be celebrating with ribbon cutting ceremonies. in larkspur they'll have their ceremony at 1:00. novato will have a ceremony at 10:30 tomorrow morning. for the rest of this month the trains will have temporary schedules. in january they will get up to full speed and start their new timetable with more service. the next couple of weeks

and amy hollyfield is live at the school with more. >> reporter: and school officials say the sectionol where this happened will be closed off today. it happened yesterday around 1:00 here at the mark day school. it is an independent private school here in the north bay. police have not said what happened to the boy, only that there was an accident out on the yard. and that the student died. a retired firefighter was at the school at the time for another event when he heard about what happened. >> it is tragic. being a first responder in the fire department for 30 years, that was our toughest call, so something like that, it flashes back to times that are difficult calls. tough for the parents and everybody involved and first responders. >> reporter: the school released a statement saying members of our staff witnessed the accident and immediately called 911 and did their best to provide care for the student. they also said that the death of someone so young is devastating. they have not released any information about the boy, but we know that counselors will be here today to help. am

reporter amy hollyfield is live with those details.morning. >> reporter: police arrested a 14-year-old and 16-year-old but are looking for six others. this did happen friday night at the emeryville, the shopping center in emeryville on black friday. they have surveillance video of the attack. you see a young girl approach a group, accusing them of stealing her cell phone. she gets shoved and pushed. an off-duty chp officer steps in. the group attacks him. he runs off but they caught up with him and punched and k and choked him. he lost consciousness for about a minute. shoppers were horrified to hear what happened. >> i feel you have to have your wits about you, although a chp officer would. i don't feel intimidated. i don't go out by myself after dark so that's part of it. that's part of living here. >> reporter: when the officer recovered he was able to fire some pepper spray at the group and then two juveniles were arrested, a 14-year-old and a 16-year-old. police are asking for any witnesses to come forward especially with cell pho

amy hollyfield is live with what you are learning from police. good morning, amy. >> reporter: hi, good morning. it sounded it was intense. they had to call in the s.w.a.t. team for them to get to this guy and get him into custody. this started around 2:00 this morning. three women who said that they went home with the man -- they went to his home willingly -- but they tell police when they decided they wanted to leave he did not want them to leave and pulled a gun on them. this happened in his apartment at 425 judah here in san francisco sunset. they manage to escape the home and waved down police. officers say they surrounded his apartment. they tried to communicate with him. he was unresponsive for a couple hours so they think he was under the influence, maybe passed out. the s.w.a.t. team came in. they went ahead and went to the door and say he surrendered. the captain says he's a 35-year-old man. didn't give his name but says they also confiscated a gun. we did see the officers interviewing the women. they set kind of a staging area in a doug

amy hollyfield is live in uc berkeley with more on that. >> officials on this campus are already showing signs of getting rid of the s.a.t. and the a.c.t., now the issue is headed for court. plaintiffs in the lawsuit filed against uc say the standardized tests are bias against poor and minority students. they say if colleges use these tests as part of the admissions process, then the universities are illegally discriminating against some students. uc berkeley's chancellor and chief academic officer have already said that they support dropping the test scores as part of the required admissions process. more than 1,000 colleges have already made the change. the group that filed the lawsuit is made up of students,ed a vo ka s ed advocacy groups and a school in compton. >>> the attorney general is planning to hand subpoenas to half of the state's catholic diocese. this is according to the "l.a. times." the office is issues notices to diocese in sacramento, fresno, orange, san jose, los angeles, and san francisco. the california catholic conference says it is not clear why the subpoenas are c

amy hollyfield is live at the larkspur station with more on that. amy? >> hi, reggie., you take your train here, you park. and then you just take this foot bridge and walk over to the larkspur ferry for a lovely ride into san francisco. so the hope is that this will connect commuters who live up in sonoma, napa, northern marin county down here to their jobs in san francisco. but smart trains have had money problems. those issues have delayed the opening of this larkspur station. the station was approved by voters 11 years ago in 2008. so this is one of two new stations that will be opening. the other is in downtown novato.

amy hollyfield is live at the school. >> reporter: good morning.n of the campus will it happened will be completely roped off and closed today during school. this happened yesterday around 1:00 at the mark day school in san rafael, it is an independent private school here in the north bay. police have not said what happened to the boy, only that there was an accident out on the yard and that the student died. a retired firefighter was at the school, he was at an event when this happened. >> it is tragic. being a first responder and in the fire department for 30 years, that was our toughest call. it flashes back to times that were real difficult calls. tough for the parents and everybody involved. and our first responders. i feel for them too. >> reporter: the school put out a statement saying members of our staff witnessed the accident immediately called 911 and did their best to provide care for the student. san rafael has not released any more details. we do know that counselors will be here on campus to help
