i'm andrew dymburt. >> good morning. morgan norwood in for rhiannon and we begin with the record rainfall wreaking havoc in parts of the southwest. some areas getting a year's worth of rain in 24 hours. >> floods and mudslides trapped people in homes and cars in southern california. and now we're tracking a new storm threat, this one on the gulf coast where texas is bracing for tropical storm harold. those details in a moment. but we begin with our coverage in the west this morning. people across southern california and nevada drying out and digging out after a rare tropical storm dumped record amounts of rain, creating this muddy mess. small creeks transformed into raging rivers carrying tree trunks and boulders spilling onto a road in san bernardino county. some areas getting more than a foot of rain. in nearby oak glen, the only bridge out of town is now buried in feet of mud. >> yeah, that's going to be a lot of work to get out to get the bridge down again. and they'll probably have to bring a backhoe in or something
