i'm anne-marie green. >>> this morning there's a search after a powerful earthquake hit the area last night. more than 300 people in both countries were killed. more than 2,800 people were in injured and most of the injuries were in iran. >> good morning, man re. the 7.3 magnitude quake was centered along the northern border between iran and iraq. magnitude 7 quakes are capable of widespread heavy damage. the worst damage seems to be in the mountains of western iran. the quake was so powerful it was felt as far west as the mediterranean coast. most of the victims are in a town ten miles from the border where the main hospital was severely damaged. some villages lost power and communications. now rescue efforts are being hampered by landslides. there is extensive damage on the iraqi side of the border as well. one health minister described the situation as very critical. now, following the main quake, at least 50 aftershocks have been reported. iraq sits on a fault line and is prone to frequent earthquakes.
