ating julio to miss the hawaiian islands by quite a bit and the latest has it down to a tropical stormthis storm is impacting the big island right now. as i said the center of it starting to get to the western side of the island and beginning to spin off. the next couple of hours, however, still looking at impact with the wind gusts from about 45 up to perhaps 75 or more miles per hour. the strongest winds on the north side of the storm meaning the big island and perhaps parts of hawaii and oahu. and 2-4 inches of rain in some spots and more than that in others. and facts and figures, it capable ashore around 3:00 in the morning, a couple of minutes before that on the big island. the top gusts at volume national park 66 miles per hour although the gusts could go stronger than that. this is the strongest big island landfall, the island of hawaii to the south that has been recorded, records go back to 1950. not the biggest of tropical storm or hurricanes, only a tropical storm, but still pretty big in terms of historical perspective and the big i would have hawaii. around here, sunshine

it is a closer look at julio and that hurricane track as you can see expected to go to the north of the hawaiian islands bringing in some rain and more of that high surf. it will go from a category 2 and weaken to a 1 as it heads away from land. pacific ocean lot of things going on several tomorrows in the pacific right now. and from a tropical storm moving across the western part of japan to a typhoon to hurricane julio, all three together. the difference is what separates typhoon from hurricane is the international date line. and in fact we do have a gap in our satellite here on this particular image to show you where that international date line is approximate. transitions over towards tie ta, a hurricane is going to be called a typhoon. amounts of rainfall still incredible and significant amounts. we're also getting significant amounts from thunderstorms coming across the united states and the rainfall totals highest in the southeast where columbia south carolina, three inches of rainfall in places. >> that's what causes the flash flooding moving in very quickly. rebecca stevenson.

julio behind me. you'll be able to see him spinning here with 160-kilometer per-hour winds still holding its own. but at this point not worried about julio making direct impact with the islands. it's going to go north of the chain. that is maybe enhancing the rainfall down to the south but that would be about it. then we have halong the typhoon in the western pacific. this is japan. you barely see it because it's covered by most of the rainfall here and the cloud canopy. probably just a couple hours away from technical landfall. it doesn't matter at this point because this thing is really just a big rainmaker. this is the radar coming out of the japan meteorological agency. you can see those bands wrapping around. some areas have already picked up over a foot of rainfall just from this storm. and then before that we had just incredible rains from previous typhoons. so you get the story here. ground is saturated and a little bit more rainfall is going to flood. and we're not getting a little bit more. we're getting a heck of a lot more, 130 millimeters in just 48 hours. so halong will be with us until th

julio, winds at 105 miles per hour, currently iselle at 80 miles per hour. but you're going to see here iselle is quickly on a clip here towards the hawaiian island chain. right now, winds have gusted in the past 30 minutes here as high as 45 miles per hour on kona, hilo 24, lanai picking up 46. what's the track and intensity of this storm system? it is expecting a landfall here tonight. thursday at 8:00 p.m. puts this just offshore hawaii time for landfall. it may actually weaken to a tropical storm just before landfall with winds at 70 miles per hour. moves across the big island, then it moves south of maui, honolulu, and kauai throughout friday evening. then saturday, we'll be done with that storm system, but again we have a second round, hurricane julio. the most important thing to know about this storm system, not a direct hit. storm track keeps this off to the north, but maui, honolulu, and kauai all likely having impacts with this system. overall, by far with these two hawaiian hurricanes, largest threat will be flooding. rain totals can range from 6

now on we go, take a look at what's coming up next. this is hurricane julio which at the moment is a category two hurricane packing very powerful winds. the good news is julio is expected to take a path north of the islands. perhaps far enough north that it will have no significant affect on weather conditions there. tropical storms and hurricanes generally lose a lot of their steam as they move over land areas. that was particularly true with iselle because she moved over high terrain. it slowed the storm down enough and did take a lot of punch out of the storm. >> tonight, vacationing families and residents feeling the pain now. tonight, there's a new worry. will that earth, soaked now with rain water, trigger landslides. we're on the big island tonight. >> reporter: the first of a double weather punch landed squarely on the big island of hawaii. tonight, the island is battered and bruised but still standing. utility crews are out working to clear trees. >> anybody here? >> reporter: and completely blocked island highways. access in and out of towns cut off

here's a look at julio's forecast track. you can see the forecast models still have the system. the islands of oahu see tropical storm force conditions. we have to keep a very close eye on this forecast track. it still could change. we will certainly do just that. in the east, it's a beautiful start to the weekend. high temperatures on the seasonable side. humanity not all that bad. in the southeast, we expect to see some thunderstorms, especially in the afternoon. any thunderstorms around georgia, carolinas, could produce some heavy thunderstorms, so flash flooding could be a concern. it's hot and steamy in texas. dallas and san antonio, there is the threat for severe thunderstorms, especially in the afternoon. nebraska and kansas, thunderstorms there could produce some isolated hail. >>> they fight on. another day of fire. what is israel's long-term goal after this latest conflict? so fn negatively impact good bacteria? even if you're healthy and active. phillips digestive health support is a duo-probiotic that helps supplement good bacteria found in two parts of your digestiv

right behind it hurricane julio, a category 3 storm that is at 115 miles an hour, julio could strikencing blow on the hawaiian islands in the next 36 hours, amy. >> all right, it's going to be busy there for clayton sandell in the hours to come. let's get now more on the storm's path and what we can expect and ginger is tracking that. >> looking at the radar at what just before landfall is looking more like a land stop. tropical systems do not like friction and don't like it in the way of two volcano, some up to 15,000 feet so that will slow the storm down and weaken it considerably but it will stay together enough to just slip south of most of the islands. here's the deal, though. the right side of islands as this goes through the next 24 hours, the right side of the storm is where we see the most intense as far as the worst weather goes and that's why we still have tropical storm warnings for some of those islands but, remember, right there on the big island we're most concerned about winds up to 60 miles per hour. julio looks to take a northerly track so we have good news there. j

we are looking at hurricane julio becoming less and less of an issue for hawaii. here is category one julio. here is hawaii. and you see it's well to the northeast we're not really going to see a whole lot of wind and rain. but we are still looking because it is close enough for some rough surf. there are surf advisories along the coast of hawaii because this category one storm will stay well to the north and east. it will take until about tuesday night before it downgrades to a tropical storm. but we do have high surf warnings all along the northern facing beaches with the surf rising up to around 10 to 15 feet. we could see some of those rip currents also an issue. so that's going to be the concern as things clear out. in the lower 48, we have a couple areas where we could see stronger storms. in red, including southern tennessee, northern alabama and mississippi, also northern texas and western oklahoma. biggest threat not so much for tornadoes but for large hail and damaging wind gust. and otherwise, we'll see scattered sh >>> good morning. 6:14 is the time ri

at channel 5. good morning, everybody. let's give you the very latest on iselle and also julio at this particular time.sts are picking up in honolulu as that tropical storm moves there towards oahu. as iselle passes the big island, the winds are 60, gusts 85. people are hunkering down as the storm moves through. hurricane julio category 3 going north of the big island. we'll keep an eye on it. let's check the current conditions out the door into the 50s. look at santa rosa, cooled down to 50 degrees. 60 in mountain view. later today, numbers very similar to yesterday, 60s beaches through the 70s bayside 80s, 90s away from the bay. meanwhile the extended forecast we are going to have a deeper marine layer tomorrow. and scrub every scrubbing out on sunday and just in time for the "supermoon" on sunday night. that's a look at your friday weather. elizabeth? how are the roads. >> reporter: the roads are super. at least for right now. it is still "friday light" around the bay area. a lot of drive times are slightly lower than we usually see. it's a summer commute so here's a live look at the bay bridge. no

temperatures helping to fuel most of the storms, right now, iselle weakening to 40 miles an hour, julio with winds at. we are tracking the iselle forecast, the most important thing to know about this it is now in the hawaiian chains. we're not expecting more direct hits for honor or kauai. we'll be done with the storm system as we head through saturday. but there is a second storm behind it. the thing i want to point out is it is great for the forecast, the forecast models right now as of the latest update have stayed consistent, keeping the center of the storm well to the center of maui, also kauai, yes, they will get outer bands with rain and wind but this is not the worse case scenario. so a little bit of good news here for the hawaiian islands. still, it will be a little bit touch and go there all the way through monday with the rain and wind. let's go ahead and get you back in the bay area forecast here and there. we have had have a little bit of cloud cover and forecast. a beautiful day, humidity at 40%, and check out in san francisco after getting fog this morning. we have 71 right near downto
