here along the boardwalk in atlantic city. here on the boardwalk, it's desolate at the moment. still a little damp and cool from the rain we had yesterday. we have seen a few people come up and down the boards in the past couple of hours. we have lost a few casinos in the time that we've had from memorial day last year until today. the ocean is still here. this is the unofficial start of the summer season. atlantic city, it has been in a very public struggle as of late over casino shutdowns and bankruptcies. despite all of that you have some of the former casino properties trying to come back. talking about revel and show boat. this holiday weekend, it is a time when the businesses especially those here are trying to see how this summer is going to go. a lot of money can be made out here. the question is will that money be spent here or elsewhere. i just spoke with one of the guys who pushes those rolling chairs around. he says business is still good at least for him. >> people love atlantic city. you cannot -- i lived here al

frank bechtel knows atlantic city better than anything. frank and his family have been living here for three situations. personal. >> this is 61. popping in on ohio avenue and i'm going to make an eastbound trip. we feel like we're under siege from the national media, believe it or not. it is true we have casinos closing but casinos have been here for 30 years, 32 years i think. they've opened and closed throughout the history of gaming in atlantic city. right now we're going through a transition where for the last few years there's been a contraction. now, go up the east coast and in iowa for crying out loud. >> you made a big investment to become a jitney driver in this town. how important is this? >> it's critical. if we don't have the business i don't have a business. they spend over $1 million a year to market the city as a whole. we have never done that in our history until two years ago. we are way behind but i think atlantic city as a whole has a chance to reinvent ourselves and it wouldn't be the first time. >> well, fast forward

we saw atlantic city police on the scene at bally's all morning and into the afternoon. police say the infant who had been born prematurely was first rushed from the hotel tower at bally's to atlantic care regional medical center here in atlantic city and airlifted to children's hospital of philadelphia where authorities say the baby was in critical condition. the circumstances of what caused the infant to end up in such a life threatening condition are what investigators are trying to determine. police tell us new jersey's division of child protection and permanency is among the agencies involved in the probe. now, we don't know who was here with the baby and how long they may have been at the casino. i reached out to a bally spokesperson as well. but she deferred me to law enforcement authorities since it is their case. again, i'm told that the atlantic county prosecutor's office is leading this investigation. i've reached out to a spokesman several times today to get more answers. as soon as i get those answers, we'll bring them to you. live in atlantic city, ted green
