avi, it's great to have you back on the show.nt to start there your reaction to what president biden had to say. >> i think i'd sign on to everything the president said. i think that hamas does need to be eliminated. i think the massacre last weekend demonstrated that. if ever we thought that it was a pragmatic rational organization that can be reasoned with. we now know it's an isis-like organization that needs to be destroyed. so, i think that's absolutely true. i don't think there's any israelis like the president said on the other hand wants to be pats of the gaza strip. no one wants to administer that territory. no won wants to run the lives of 2 million palestinians. i think he's right on that. and the two-state solution, palestine and israel living side by side, that's not what hamas is about. hamas exists solely to destroy israel and murder as many jews as it possibly can. that's not a factor. but it's how to get to a point where the peace process is possible. >> avi, can i ask you what the egyptian president had to say o

avi, i'm just wondering, and there's been so much talk of gaza being sealed, that nothing can get in, nothing can get out. we saw raf sanchez's report on the thousands of ak-47s, claymore mines, rpgs that hamas fighters had when they went in to perpetrate that massacre a week ago. and now we're seeing that iran's foreign ministry, talking today that hamas has potentially the possibility to release the 199 hostages if israel stops its air strikes on the gaza strip, even though hamas has not ck a knowledged making such an offer. is iran now the hostage negotiator par excellence? >> reporter: we know that iran has had a role in this all along. now joining us, we have from jerusalem is avi, the editor in chief of the jerusalem post. avi, what can you tell us about what you are learning about this strike that appears to have killed hundreds according to the palestinian health ministry? >> i'm hearing the same sort of things that your correspondents are hearing that there is a lack of clarity on what transpired and i can tell you that it took place in the midst of the barrage of rockets from gaza into israel and it is certainly not unusual for those rockets to misfire. roughly 10% to 30% of the rockets fired by palestinian terrorist groups in gaza towards israel actually land in gaza often killing palestinians. it is certainly possible that that happened here and it is also certainly possible that was an israeli air strike that hit this hospital. i can tell you as far as the mechanics, israel does not target hospitals and if this happened it was obviously an accident and it doesn't diminish the very real human tragedy that we see unfolding if it's true that several hundred people have been killed and it is horrific

you attended a funeral, i know, avi, this, week for a 23 year old soldier.alk to me more about that. >> so, the soldier in question was actually the cousin of a friend of mine. he was an immigrant from france. he was at kibbutz be'eri, one of the communities in israel, south park by these territories. he held fire for eight hours. he was able to maintain this position for eight hours. he saved an untold number of lives. he took a how many lives we he saved, but it is quite a lot, before he was unfortunately killed in battle. the funeral, which took place at mount hurtful military cemetery, the main military cemetery in jerusalem, was attended by hundreds, perhaps thousands, of people who didn't know him. i was one of him. i didn't know this young man, but who wanted to come and pay tribute to his sacrifice. and i can tell you in the same section of the cemetery in which he was laid to rest, there were three other fresh graves of other young people who were killed in last week's horrific attack. this is, again, a country that has been devastated, 1300 people,
