i know a member of the bae family will be speaking. kenth bae's sister. we appreciate your your perspective tonight. if you are just joining is us on ms nbc we are following breaking news. the two americans being held in north korea have been released. they are back home. you see a video from moments ago, the family of kenneth bae greeting him after his release. detained in 2012. they haven't seen him for a couple of years. this is a heartfelt reunion, a surprise reunion. his family members didn't realize what happened until saturday morning when they got word from the state department that he was on a plane, that he was released and on his way home. they have been very vocal, what they described as a private family but been forced to be vocal as far as pleading for his release. citing deteriorating health, his diabetes and his heart condition as well. they have been very vocal in trying to get him released. the miller family twb who was there to welcome back matthew miller, who is described in his 20s, he was serving a six-year jail term after he alleged

the port contracted, in essence, with bae to do this work. bae performed admirably. got it in and got it done days before the first ship came in and connected, which was matthew perry. the matthew perry is still in dry dock there. it's been -- didn't get my update in terms of power usage, but it's been hundreds of thousands of kilowatt hours, the equivalent of a couple hundred household use of electricity. it's been a massive amount of power. this came about, in part -- in large part, due to the fact we had previously constructed shore side power at pier 27. and i wanted to just touch on that for a moment because with the exception of commissioner brandon, this port commission hasn't been here during that project. that started way back in 2006 when we applied for our grant, which came through from the air district in 2007. we subsequently applied for and received additional grant funding which resulted in a project with a budget of 5.2 million, where we had $4.2 million in grant funding. so, we got a $5 million project for $1 million out of pocket. we got that done o

matthew todd miller and ken bae.ly spoke out about his readjustment to life back home in seattle. ana cabrera has more. >> reporter: john and christine. what a weekend for the families of ken bae and matthew todd miller. both men arriving late saturday night embraced by their loved ones as they stopped off the plane at mcchord field in washington. ken bae has been held captive for over two years. for matthew todd miller, it has been seven months. mystery around why they were released now. the families expressing gratitude. we talked to ken bae's sister and what those first 24 hours back on american soil is like. listen to what she shared. >> we had a late night eating pizza. you know, he is a story teller to begin with. that's what he does. he holds court. he regales people with funny stories. that's who he is as a person to begin with. you can tell he was so hungry for that. >> reporter: terri chung says she is seeing the old glimpses of her brother. she said it will take time to get readjusted to life in the u.s. i
