aftermath, east 14th and bancroft here in san leandro. you can see the scene is clear but you can see the skid marks on the street here and a pedestrian sign that is knocked down. earlier this was not the scene, several police officers were here trying to catch these carjacking suspects. in fact, let's go to the video now to show you that we have in our newsroom from what we understand this all started when three men carjacked a driver just outside a toys "r" us store in hayward. authorities chased the suspects but it appears at least according to the video that the driver crashed the car pretty badly, at least on the passenger side, again, near east 14th and bancroft. this was just before 2:00 this morning. we also understand that the suspects ran away into the neighborhood and then officers had to go door to door looking for them and at times, as you will see in the video, having their guns drawn because they really didn't know if the suspects were armed but the suspects were eventually caught and from the video looks like two of the su

we definitely saw skid marks as we were driving up bancroft avenue. then we saw the skid marks and then we saw where the car ce to crash. this is the guardrail that would protect you from a vehicle if you were waiting as a pedestrian for the light to change. there is no way that that car would have been drivable. we just saw it being taken away on a flatbed truck this morning. the tires were point in the wrong direction. the windshield was smashed out. this is how the chase ended but the three suspects being loaded into the ambulance. after they're checked out they will be taken into custody. but before police had suspects out of the car safely they did have to apreach with guns drawn because the officers were not sure whether those three suspects were armed. a k-9 assisted in the apprehension of the three suspects and police describe as dramatic beginning as the end. police say the suspects allegedly car jack someone in hayward and then took off. officers started pursuing the vehicle. the driver went to san leandro. we mentioned the skid marks we saw

there was a carjacking and a police chase >> reporter: let's set the scene quickly on east 114 and bancroftyou can see the skid marks from earlier this morning from this carjacking and chase. you also see a pedestrian sign as well. but as we go to video now, new information again, we are learning more on the details of what happened. we spoke with hayward police a few minutes ago. this started at about 1:30 this morning at a toys'r'us store. they told us that two women were dropping off donations at kiosk or bin near that store. that's when police say three african american male jew nights, one with a gun carjacked the victims and their car. the police was immediately called. they spotted the car not too long after. they chased the suspects and the car crashed right near where we are standing, about a half mile west of i-80 in san leandro. two of the suspects were taken into custody. a third ran from the scene where police and deputies setup a perimeter. a canine officer spotted the suspect near a home and that person was taken into custody. all three suspects were evaluated at the scene as
