. >> well, right now i'm finishing frank by barney frank his autobiography. it's a really interesting book because it gives you not only a little look at his career, but you know, congress back when it worked -- [laughter] a little better than maybe now. and just some of the, you know, highlights of some of the major legislation he worked on and some of the experiences he went through. especially relevant for someone who always looked up to barney as someone who's probably the smartest and wittiest, you know, member of congress i remember watching. and it's a really fascinating read. so i'm just finishing that one up. i just started one called factory man which is about the bassett furniture company or group, i forget what it is, but it's, essentially, a company that builds furniture here in the united states and despite all the challenges with globalization and companies all trying to send construction over to china because it's cheaper they wanted to keep building things in america. and they wanted to keep providing wages for the people who worked for them

let's go now to barney phillips who is here with the latest. >> the austrian officials and interior ministerave us details around this incident were visibly shaken and 71 people who presumably sophisticated to death in what must have been a slow and agonizing way trapped in the back of the truck including women and children and even included a baby girl. so it's very upsetting for people here in austria to hear what has happened. the question is what can be done about it? well, the austrian counselor came in speaking yesterday saying there has to be a coordinated european response and he like the counterpart angela merkel is in favor of quotas that eu counties step up their legal obligations and agree to take in thousands of refugees that would be distributed around the eu according to each country's economic capacity and ability to absorb and so on. but we know that idea has also encountered stiff resistance in the eu and particularly in eastern europe and wealthy countries like den mark and uk who said they don't want to have anything to do with such a system. >>> a boat carrying refugees

when barney frank put this into law, he thinks it will tell shareholders who have a greater say in compensationore about that decision and what ceos make relative to employees at the firm. you have to worry about the efficacy because that's going to very depending on the businesses they are in. does it include stock options and bonuses? david: we have to look at the final thing here. it sounds like something that should be easy to calculate but in fact there are a lot of different aspects to that. part of the final rule would be an exemption of 5% of employees. they would have a lot of latitude and they could keep the median employee for three years, unless some dramatic changes happen. pimm: any arguments against this rule? david: yes, there is a big gap, folks who specialize in compensation, there's a dramatic drop-off when you go down to mid tier management. it shines a light -- pimm: is it going in the proxy? david: yes. it will be in 2017 if this rule goes through. that will provide a lot of relief to these companies and many of them are figuring out how they're going to come up with these

on the 27th, i moved to new orleans to attend the funeral of clarence barney, a legendary community leader. the funeral was taking place at dillard university. it was a beautiful, flawless day when i walked in. the hurricane, i'll in the gulf, was category one or two. this was a glorious celebratory funeral -- it was going to go on for a long time. about two hours into the funeral, my communications director, who was traveling with me, handed me a note. she said, we must leave now. de ofked to the sign of the sanctuary. she said the hurricane's category five, we must leave town now and go back to new york. if you will, the airport will be close, and all hell will break loose. mind you, it is a funny, beautiful day. no evidence that a storm is on the way. her, i am going to my mother's house to check on her first, and that we will go to the airport. my mother lives about 10 blocks from the chapel. i went to my mother's house and i said, mom, turn on the tv, this hurricane is coming, you must leave town, and go to baton rouge, which is where i had a sister. she said, i'm not going anywhere .
