chief stations, basically there's a battalion chief there, he will be like the little commander of that district as far as we're concerned and the fire department's response. going to have the ham radio communication people there, they are going to set up a little base station in that fire station and they are also going to be in communication with the staging area in that district. this is what the big picture looks like, basically it's a little clearer than that, it goes up on the wall, but it's the city laid out in these response districts. it shows you where all the emergency facilities such as hospitals and police stations and fire stations and schools are. basically, there's a map that corresponds with your neighborhood. you want to get one so you can find out where in your neighborhood to go. once you've taken care of your families, your friends, your pets, your loved ones if you want you can go help out other people in your city. there it is, a place for us to gather as nert members and there's our nert ics area. here is our structure. same kind of set up, sort of our version. c

we understand that three people were taken in what the battalion chief called a serious to very critical condition, taken to the hospital this morning. as you can see, flames erupted at this four-unit apartment complex just before 2:00 a.m. fire crews say they saw heavy smoke and flames. apparently two women jumped out of the second floor. they suffered leg injuries. they're at a hospital. there were three people on the second floor who were rescued and taken to a hospital with what the battalion chief calls very serious to critical injuries. we understand that two adults and one 3-year-old girl all from the same family. there were four people who live on the ground floor who were able to get out. at this point no one is able to go back to live in these apartments. the red cross is on the scene. they are helping the four people who managed to get out, find temporary housing. so that's where we are at this point. no word on any possible cause. investigators say it is just too early. right now they're just trying to take care of the fire, take care of the people who need a place to live. b

my own connections with a name like giovagnoli are third generation battalion. i'm not even sure what generation on my mother's side in terms of scotch irish dutch immigrants from virginia to missouri. i never really thought about immigration much growing up. my grandfather was italian. i was aware he had a different life from me. and very grateful for the opportunities that he give us. my father was the youngest child growing up in the depression. all they wanted to do was the american. he does not even know italian. i never even thought about it. during the development of a career path, i fell into immigration. like a lot of young attorneys, i was interested in human rights. i was offered a job at the department of justice with the ins. i was not tried to do it. i started thinking about what i cared about. it was public service. you make a difference where you are. i believed for the 13 years that i was in ind and then dhs, that i was able to help make changes within the government structure. i was detailed to senator kennedy's office. i worked on the immigrat
