that's what police say. >>> now in our bay area beat. a federal judge denied a request by san francisco attorneys to remove a ban on sweeping homeless tent encamps. that ban has been in place since late december and it keeps the city from clearing the camps until there are enough shelter beds. currently the city is about 4,000 beds short. the city can ask a federal appeals court to step in but otherwise the injunction will stay in place until the next trial. that's set for april of 2024. >>> well, police departments are stretched thin and struggling to attract recruits. now one bay area city has just signed off on what appears to bethe biggest hiring bonus in the country. get this, $75,000 for new police officers. the alameda police department says its staffing is down nearly 30%. it currently has 24 police officer vacancies. katie nielsen has reaction from the community. >> reporter: lisa cross is a longtime alameda resident and business owner. she has had the store for more than 30 years and says she's concerned about the lack of polic

some of us felt the shaking in our nbc bay area newsroom. er jolts were felt by a few producers in the gilroy area. rob mayeda joins us with more on the intensity of this afternoon's quake. rob? >>> at 4.5, that is enough to get your attention in terms of magnitude. the area in green is light to moderate shaking closer to hollister, the epicenter, we did get reports felt up to marin county, san francisco to the east bay, and a bit further out even to fresno. really the focus of the more intense shaking down closer to the hollister area. as of 4.5, that's on the lower threshold of something that could potentially cause damage. 5.0 and larger you would expect to see some of that. noticeable shaking and, again, as it did occur about six miles deep relatively shallow but, again, farther away from downtown hollister, and you see the red lines on the map. here are the fault lines in the vicinity, the san andreas fault and also the calaveras fault. as usgs continues to go over their data as it continues to come in, will figure out which fault system

welcome to nbc bay area news at 4:30. we're going to share with you what police and people in that neighborhood are telling us about that mass shooting. we're also tracking other stories including a string of deadly wrong-way crashes on bay area freeways just this past weekend. we'll dig into the numbers and see how common they really are. >>> also, an 81-year-old woman getting evicted from her own san francisco home. our ian cole joins us to explain how it was sold from underneath her. >>> the breaks might be starting to go the warriors' way. we're learning about a star who might be out for game five. we'll begin with a light night shooting in one of san francisco's most popular tourist attractions. one person is dead, four others wounded. now police are trying to figure out what sparked it. it happened late last night outside the condor club. according to san francisco police, investigators do not think the shooting was random. all five of the people who were shot are from outside the city of san francisco. according to

to the morning commute, you see it right there, 7:00 a.m., ran across the bay area. as we approach early afternoon, the rain showers begin to decrease. well it is possible early on we may see a sprig or two as the game progresses, cloudy skies, maybe partial clearing toward the end of the game. 50s for san francisco on friday but by the weekend, temperatures up into the 60s and 70s. notice how this guy is now clear heading into friday evening and saturday which leads us to a warmer forecast now. maybe a stray shower or two before sunrise along the coast, sunshine, upper 60s and low 70s on saturday and look at easter sunday, temperatures, mid-70s inland from the tri-valley down into san jose and 60s and low 70s around the peninsula and east bay. sunday, clearly the warmest day ahead over the next seven days but for tomorrow, plan on a little breezy weather and a bit of rain early on, clearing skies heading to where the evening hours and for saturday and sunday, very nice. semi warm for sunday plans. sunshine and 70s on monday for tomorrow, a little soggy for the morni

some rare may storms making its way into the bay area starting as early as monday through tuesday. s going to be the most unstable day where we do have a slight chance of pop-up thunderstorms. >> mainly for the north bay and even our bay area coastline, most of the bay area monday through tuesday expected to get about a quarter of an inch of rain or less. but it's a snow levels that we're going to notice in our highest peaks that's going to be around 4,000 feet for local hills and mountains where we could actually see a fresh dusting of powder. and then wednesday into saturday on again off again, light scattered hit or miss showers going to impact the bay area. bringing us endure from about a quarter of an inch to half an inch of rain. but for local pills and mountains, we can expect at least an inch of rain when it is all said and done. so let's take a look at radar for kuz. we are noticing that stubborn marine layer along the coast, but it is this storm out in the pacific northwest from the gulf of alaska that is going have a cold or core to it. first bringing us some windy condit

most of the showers have already moved past the bay area. it was in and out of here fairly quickly overnight. there are a couple of light lingering showers in parts of the north bay. we're going to be watching out for rain chances farther to the north as we go into today. but overall it's cloudy and it's a little bit damp out there as we take a live look outside in san jose. it's in the upper 40s now and we're headed back to the sunshine, after some morning clouds. we'll see our temperatures staying on the cool side today, but eventually it's going to warm up and we'll talk about that in a few minutes. >>> mike, you're starting out with a look at the golden gate bridge. >> between the music roll for our show and now, they just cleared the last of the vehicles. you can still see the glowing lights from one of the crews that's still there. we still have the cones as well. we'll have damp roads around the bay, but the slowing i saw on the northbound side of the golden gate bridge has mostly cleared except just after the toll plaza. the east bay,

other bay area water agencies have announced rollbacks of restrictions and fees. the contra costa water district ended the 15% drought surcharge that covers martinez, concord, pittsburgh, antioch and part of walnut creek. a couple weeks ago, east bay mud announced that it was suspending penalties for water use and making the 10% conservation mandate voluntary instead. east bay mud already ended the 8% drought surcharge, but some restrictions remain, including a ban on outdoor watering. along with a ban on washing vehicles without using a hose shut off nozzle. >>> unrelenting atmospheric rivers brought california snowpack that we have not seen in years. scientists are now watching to see what will happen when it melts. flood experts at uc davis say they hope that it will be a slow process. we all hope that. we hope that it will keep the state hydrated for the next couple of years. but a heat wave could bring massive flooding. >> we know the massive reality, and that is that there is something like 30 million acre-feet of water stored as snow in the sierras above us
