we begin this new time with the new covid rules for residents of just one bay area county. today people have to wear a mask again indoors in most places in alameda county. the mandate went into effect this morning. ktvu james taurus is finding out if any other local counties are considering matching alameda with their own mandates. health officials within alameda county , saying uptick in severe cases is prompting the change, however , on a federal level a push for masks is now coming from the cdc. five bay area counties are now part of the cdcs high level for community covid-19 risk. they are marin, napa, sonoma, solano and santa clara. that means the cdc recommends these areas consider implementing specific recommendations for prevention like wearing masks, according to the cdc. alameda county's community risk for covid-19 is considered medium not high. despite that, the county's health officer explains why the change is in effect in the last several weeks or hospitalization numbers have really climbed up over 100. people in the hospital today. i think we're at 106 startin

take a close look at about 900,000 people across a bay area counties. it found that the wealth gap is wider here than anywhere else in california, it's only getting worse. those in the 90% ow make more than $380,000 per year compared to some of our neighbors and the 10% ow who are just 19,000, a family of 4 with an income of 146,000. he is considered low income, which means more than half a million households in the san francisco bay area are struggling to provide the basic needs. they found that black latino native americans fall behind the worst at nearly 50% of households below the income threshold and that's a major problem is the cost of housing. you have 4 in 10 households that are paid more than 30% of their income for roof over their heads. and there's 32,000 people here that are homeless. well, state water regulators are ordering many northern california farme s, agriculture water districts and cities to stop diverting water from rivers and streams due to the drought. state officials say more than 4500 water right and claims are being curtailed
