only a few bay area cities allow safe and sane fireworks. gilroy is one of them. later today fireworks sales will begin here at these nonprofit booths. all over the bay area fire crews are concerned about the high fire danger. that's due to the high fire danger. investigators believe that illegal fireworks are to blame for a fire in castro valley on friday. neighbors heard a loud boom felt houses shake and saw flames shooting 20 feet into the air. it is likely officials say that somebody threw fireworks from a passing car over a sound barrier along 580. that was put out in a matter of minutes limiting damage. >> fireworks are illegal unless you have safe and sane fireworks in alameda county. and we are asking people to not use illegal fireworks obviously for these very reasons because this could have been much worse.

illegal fire works are a threat for all bay area cities during the fourth of july.r is even greater due to the record drought. tara moriarty is live in oakland where crews are already dealing with fire works related fires. good morning tara. >> reporter: good morning. the conditions are quite foggy in the oakland hills. as you can imagine, this has been a drought year. conditions are very dry. firefighters are very concerned about illegal fire works. here in oakland, there are no fire works allowed. be forewarned that if you have fire works, they will be confiscated if police come around them. we want to show you a tweet that came out. crews were able to snuff out the flames. this happened on havens court on top of a palm tree. they were able to stop it before it spread. earlier last night oakland fire chief held held a town forum to talk about the problem. more forecasts and police will be out on patrol keeping things in check. >> it would be easier if we were out in the streets and able to spot a fire and have a quicker response verses having someone call it in. >

and then along the coast, bodega bay 63. 67 in the city in san francisco. san rafael 77. so the next couple of days it is going to heat up a little bit along the bay area and a little bit along the coast. but monday is when we are going to see those hottest temperatures further inland. >>> well, it looks like el nino could be back this coming winter. meteorologist paul deanno with what this means for our drought. >> reporter: so it is official. el nino is likely back this winter and looking just through the lens of our drought, this could be very good news. but it's not a guarantee that reservoirs like these will be filled to the top quickly because not every el nino is created the same. we have weak, moderate and strong el ninos. strong el nino winters are by far the wettest. using santa rosa as an example, winters with a strong el nino give us nearly two feet of rain. we get two inches less rain with a moderate el nino and weak el ninos are actually below average. even if el nino gives us a really wet winter this winter, not going to make up the drought all at once. the
