i'm becky quick along with andrew ross sorkin and kelly evans.oe is out today we've been watching the u.s. equity futures i bet you have, too. believe it or not this christmas eve morning we are looking at green arrows across the board so far. dow futures indicated up by 61 points the nasdaq up by 40 points the s&p up by close to 9 points. let's talk about some damage we've seen investors not in the holiday spirit at all. you're talking about the biggest weekly loss last week in ten years for the dow and the nasdaq and the largest for the s&p 500 since august of 2011 friday's close for the dow was the lowest since september of 2017 the s&p is the lowest since july of 2017. lots of action today, even though we are talking about a holiday shortened trading day today. trading closes at 1:00 p.m we'll watch this closely throughout the course of the day. there was even heavy volume. dow was down by 400 points on friday in the heaviest volume we've seen in about two years. overnight in asia. the nikkei was closed in observance of the emperor's birthday

i'm becky quick along with joe kernen and andrew ross sorkin.ur guest host this morning is mike santoli good to see you. good to have you here as we talk about what happened yesterday, maybe set things up for this morning. stocks yesterday erased a 500-point drop in the dow to close 34 points higher it was something to watch throughout the course of the session. i asked what happened. what is the answer >> i don't think we missed any key headline, any one specific thing. i think you have to -- in these high stress markets, you have to relieve yourself of the idea that it's pricing in new information. in the morning, the s&p broke through 2600 it touched just about the closing low for the year about 15 points or 18 points lower. it seemed to be just about that. you had to touch the hot stove to see if it was hot and it was then europe closed the news about apple people are itchy to see if this bottom range will hold >> it's been down there four times, right >> just about four times yesterday there were two stocks down for every one up. the banks

i'm becky quick along with joe kernen and andrew ross sorkin. let's look at the u.s.quity futures. the markets are indicated up by 230 points for the dow up by 25 points for the s&p 500. up by 84 points for the nasdaq what you see right now may change drastically through the course of the day. yesterday we saw big swings, a move of over 500 points through the course of the session. at the high of the day the dow was up 368 points, and down by over 200 points. a lot of volatility continuing through the markets. look at what happened overnight in asia. it looks like the nikkei closed in the green up by 2% the nikkei now sitting at 21,602 hang seng was up sharply, a gain of 1.6%. the shanghai composite was up by a third of a percentage point. in europe today, where we're continuing to hear what's happening with the talks with theresa may and this vote of no-confidence she'll be facing later today, stocks are up across the board there the ftse up by 1%. stocks in germany up by 1% the cac is the out-performer let's look at what's happening with treasury yields in the unite

i'm becky quick. let's take a look at the u.s. equity futures at this hour. we saw strong moves in the morning. but that all fizzled through the afternoon. you had all three major averages briefly falling into the red before you did get a late day push for stocks that left us with some modest advances. dow was up by 82 points yesterday. the nasdaq was up by 30 points and then the s&p was up by less than a quarter point to close near the low for the year. you're going to see this morning dow futures are up by triple digits futures indicated up by over eight points and nasdaq indicated up by 23 let's also take a look at what happened overnight in asia you'll see that nikkei closed down by .6%. the heng seng was slightly higher the shanghai composite was off by more than 1%. and then in europe, there is active trading taking place right now, you'll see that there are green arrows across the board. looks like the major averages are up by .5% or better for the most part. the cac and dax up by .5%. the ft-se up by .3%. and italy and spain up by more than 1%. finall
