benjamin crump joins me now. thank you for joining us. >> thank you for having me, dr. dyson. >> the family thinks this timing is strategic to release these photo mantajs and then the video of michael brown allegedly committing a robbery through a strong arm in order to undermine and sub vert his reputation and to smear him as to attract attention away from the fact that the photographs of the police officer have not been released. what is your thought about that? >> dr. dyson the family was beyond outraged and very upset to say the least. but i told them, you know, just police 101 and you've written about this before in your books, that they always try to attack the victim. it's character assassination. and you know, it's trying to distract you from the real issue. the real issue here is that this young man was executed in broad daylight. there's no other way to say when you look at the trajectory of the bullets and how many times he was shot. and for what? whatever transpired in that store? he put his hands up. all of the witnesses say he put his hands up. that's the

and to speak to benjamin crump, a highly intelligent and insightful man. >> be in the street for four being in the street for four hours if you were an officer of the law? >> great point. alderman lewis, dr. peterson's argument, the inability to see black or brown kids or poor kids as human beings and as a result they are n they are not extended the fundamental basis we use to treat other kids, that is treat them with respect and dignity, don't assault them or shoot them, if they are doing something wrong, tap them on the back of the hands, let me take you to your parents as opposed to gun them down in the streets? >> michael, here's -- you know, and then -- when you think about this issue, right, and the way african-americans especially our teens are being st. louis, but america, media plays a major role in the perception that people have of these kids when they approach them. if every time you see an african-american child on tv, if he's involved in crime or whatever, then you naturally begin to have that perception. i think everybody has a role to play in turning this thing around.

joining us now is martin family and now brown family attorney benjamin crump.u on the program. michael brown's mom said justice will bring peace to ferguson. what is justice in their eyes? >> i think justice to them is justice as it would be for any other parent, that is that the person who executed their child in broad daylight will be arrested and brought before a court of law to be, to have to answer for the evidence and the witnesses against him and that he's held accountable. that's what they want. make no mistake about it. these parents are not asking for people to be violent. they have not asked for people to be irresponsible. what they want is justice for their son because he can't speak for himself anymore. they told me we are all he got. we got to fight for our child. >> we talked about the results of the independent autopsy, which you had performed yesterday. we know now the federal government's autopsy has been finished. do you know if you and the family will be given information from that autopsy or will that be with held from you until the entire

and benjamin crump's answer in his words, he says, wouldn't you want to know how your child died. clearly, they want to see this done a second time because they want to verify the facts for themselves. but, again, have not heard from the department of justice as to whether they indeed will oversee a second autopsy. we know that funeral plans are on hold as they await to see if doj will oversee the second autopsy. but i want to put this all in context, because when you look at murder cases in general, it is not unusual to get more than one autopsy if there's a reason for it. but when you look at these specific circumstances, you have the state who's looking in to a murder case, and they are doing their own investigation, and then you have the feds who is looking in to -- they are looking in to a criminal -- excuse me, a civil rights violation case. >> right. >> reporter: and they possibly may oversee a second autopsy. i spoke to several legal analysts and experts who say, now, that would be unusual. it would be rare. not to say it hasn't happened before, but it would definitely be

joining me now live from tallahassee, florida, is brown family attorney benjamin crump. thanks for joining us. we just learned from the ferguson police chief that the officer responding to the scene did not know that michael brown ways suspect in the robbery when he stopped him. what do you make of the police releasing this video in the morning and then a few hours later saying oh, it turns out that's not necessarily directly relevant to the shooting at all? what do you think of that? >> jake, it's nothing but police 101 when it comes to police shootings where they shoot innocent people. you know, i've done almost hundreds of these type of cases. it is the same strategy every time, jake. attack the victim, assassinate the character and try to justify the actions. but it cannot be justified, jake. the execution style murder of this kid in broad daylight. it's so irrelevant, the two have nothing to do with one another. we're going to make people stay focused on what this case is really about. where's the report about the murder? >> the family had asked for transparency in

joining us to talk about the process now is the brown family attorney benjamin crump. obviously a big day for this city, attorney general eric holder commenting. a lot of people in the community i talked to were pleased he came ask met be brown family. what can you tell us about the private meeting that went on. >> it was a private meeting, anderson. the lawyers, just him and the parents and he spoke to them as a parent. that he could understand their pain and frustration having children of his own. saying they deserve a fair and thorough investigation and an appropriate review and that meant a lot to leslie and michael because they are distrustful of the local authorities and you know why. their child was executed by the police and his mother keeps asking a very pointed question. you can't call the police on the police. and she told the attorney general that. >> but they were impressed by him. they were -- it had an impact on him that they came and met with him. >> it did and it was surprising because they were reluctant initially. after the meeting, they -- >> reluct

benjamin crump is the family's attorney and joins us on the phone. our camera location was moved by the police due to chaos there. sir, what's was the family's reaction when they saw those autopsy results for the first time? >> well, as you can imagine, ronan, it is very difficult. you hear about the tragedy. you go to the -- like everybody in the community, they were out there for four hours while it was roped off and the police gave them no answers. but, you know, when they got the autopsy results, the preliminary autopsy results from dr. michael baden, it was devastating because the shots to the head were very troubling for his parents and you would imagine and explaining that the shots to the arms was consistent with what the witnesses were saying. so indeed he was surrendering and yet the police kept shooting. but the head shot was really troubling for the mother especially. >> i can only imagine. obviously our thoughts are with that family right now. another troubling development is you haven't had access to the findings of the state autopsy or

thank you. >> thank you. >>> goldie, i know you are listening to the words of benjamin crump. mark potter is there. he was bringing us a report from a half mile away from the protest scene and the tense situation there. goldie, as you are hearing, mr. crump's words, what's your takeaway? >> i think one of the most striking things about the second autopsy is mike brown was struck in the inner right palm. which means his hand were up in surrendered and he was shot. that's enough for me. that's enough for me to take this to a grand jury and vigorously seek an indictment, that's enough for me to take this to trial. i think that's the most striking thing. there are many questions to be asked and answered tonight and tomorrow. but i think that all of this information, all of the scientific and physical evidence ought to be in a court of law. i don't think we ought to try it in the court of public opinion. i think he is stradly well intentioned about releasing the information. i'm not sure the police chief is well intentioned about releasing the videotape from the store surveillance b

joining me from ferguson is benjamin crump, the attorney for the brown family and represented the family of trayvon martin. let's start with the news of an affiliate that police decided to delay the release of the officer's name for fear of safety. when's the brown's family reaction to that? >> well, like many, they're disappointed because most people have asked that this be a transparent process, ronan. they want to be able to have faith in the investigation and this is an opportunity to do that, but yet, think come up and cite reasons we don't think are as important. everybody knows our identity. everybody know it is the family identity. and we think it has to be a two-way street. it has to be an even playing field because as we've been saying all along, there's a color blind curiosity as to what happened on saturday at 12:00 noon that left a 18-year-old kid dead on the concrete being shot multiple times in broad daylight. >> we have seen protests out there, arrests, looting since michael brown's death. this community's in upheavel. his mother said no violence, just justice. to this fa

we thought we would hear from benjamin crump, the lawyer representing the family we heard from two different representatives for the family. they spoke, and what is clear in all of this is there is clear outrage on the part of the family of michael brown. they feel the release of this video. we'll show you some of this video that shows michael brown in a convenience show just literally minutes before he was shot and killed by an officer with the ferguson police department. the release of this video, and also in tandem with the release of the officer's name was calculated, and the idea here was to focus more attention on the robbery and what the representatives call the character assassination of michael brown than on the actions, the alleged actions of the police officer which, as you know, is that the officer shot down michael brown in cold blood as his hands were over his head, and what you heard from the attorney is the universal sign of surrender. mr. there is much more to follow on this story, and we'll continue to cover it for you from ferguson, missouri. i'm tony harris from new york.
