as bob brooks explains police are looking for whoever opened fire. >> teenagers got shot, a 17 and a 19-year-old. >> oh, my gosh. that hurts me because the younger generation is not given the opportunity in order to progress to my level. >> reporter: you can hear the shock and disappointment in david elliot's reaction. his neighborhood was home to the scene of a violent shooting just after 7:00 last night. two teens, 17 and 19 years old were shot. the 19-year-old was luckily only grazed in the leg but police say the 17-year-old was hit multiple times in the lower back, stomach and legs. investigator say he had to undergo surgery last night and is in critical condition. witnesses say the 17-year-old ran into this restaurant for help after he was shot. >> he came outside, at the chinese store someone got shot so police came and took him to presbyterian hospital. >> reporter: this man tells us he was in a bible study at a church across the street and ran out after hearing the gunfire. >> heard about nine gunshots and while we were sitting in bible study. >> police confirm 10 gunshots we

"action news" reporter bob brooks spoke to parents and students today about that frightening incidentter: things were set up to hopefully be normal. yesterday that was a much different case. the school was placed on lockdown well into the evening. just yards away in the 400 block of pond street police say they were in a standoff with suspect 32-year-old nicholas napoli. they tried to call him out breaking down the door. napoli would eventually be captured and arrested. >> i was at work. my hands were tied. i was scared to death for them. >> reporter: that's kristen. her kids go to the school. to think they were so close to the situation was a little too much but she says the school did a great job with notifications and safety. >> it was scary. >> reporter: schools did a great job i hear. >> they did. they let everybody know what was going on. >> reporter: kids say it wasn't too bad staying late. >> i was taking a nap. >> reporter: taking a nap. >> i was tired. >> they brought in chocolate milk water and cookies. >> reporter: many parents share the same feeling. >> it was scary. >> re

bob brooks is live now. you spoke with the victim's uncle? >> reporter: i did.worked down here in wilmington for a long time to try and prevent things like this from happening. sometimes bad things happen to good people. i can tell you that is what happened here. >> the young people please hear my voice. enough is enough. put the guns down. >> it was a tough conversation to have with wilmington duffy sandals, he is part of duffy's help. but the talk was not about the great work over the years but his nephew was shot and killed in wilmington this past saturday. >> my nephew was home from college for a week or so. >> ironically samuel says his nephew was attending a vigil for a friend that was shot and killed.
