today's bob redell joining us live. bob, what are you learning? >> reporter: well, we just spoke is with an investigator of redwood city police department rejust arrived here on the scene to join the patrol officers here. and right over here in front of this home on the sidewalk is where this young man was found shot early this morning. now the call came in as a 911 call from neighbors. they reported a disturbance around 20 crock in the morning. when officers arrived they found this 18-year-old man shot twice, once in the leg, the other time in the moth. he's right now at stanford hospital. i spoke to the detective said he's under going surgery. >> i said how is he going? >> he said i don't know because is he undergoing surgery. he was shot once in the mouth and the once in the leg. police are not revealing whether or not they have suspect input. they said when they arrived this 18-year-old was here by himself. they're about to expand the crime scene but back out here live they justent erpd are the property in front of the home where he was shot.

bob redell with how schools are preparing for this wave of dangerous temperatures.d morning, bob. >> reporter: good morning. our stop here at today in the bay has spent a lot of time e-mailing and calling school districts here in the tri-valley and throughout the rest of the bay area to find out how they plan to keep their students safe during this heat wave that's going to start a little bit later today. for example here at livermore at tri-valley christian academy, the track coach has called off practices for today and tomorrow as temperatures are expected to hit 105 out here in livermore. it's even going to be higher tomorrow. for saturday coaches are asking their athletes to run before 70:00 a.m. in the morning before the heat really turns on. in the south bay the alum rock union school district will be providing ice and bottled water for all of its schools. staff is scrambling to find portable ac units for ryan elementary. another elementary schools like luca in san jose they'll be keeping cool with their ac units that, just installed over the past few weeks. t

bob redell joins us live with the investigation under way to find how it all happened. ood morning. >> reporter: good morning to you, sam and laura. pg&e which hired the crane operator will be conducting an investigation and so will cal osha, the state agency that regulates this kind of work. we're on sondra way in campbell, and that crane used to be sitting right here and if fell back there behind me between those two homes within the past few moments. the crane operator removed parts of the crane. this is a process that started in the 12:00 a.m. hour this morning with workers using two other cranes to upright the collapse ed train and load it on to a large truck to be hauled out of here. a number of people in the surrounding houses had to be evacuated during the removal process. we believe most of them if not all of them are back home. the crane op rater called king crane services was hired by pg&e to replace a pole. yesterday around noon that crane which was extended as much as 200 feet tipped over and crashed down on two sheds and part of a roof of a house. no one wa

bob redell is there live. we see this distance, but what are the numbers about at this point? >> reporter: good morning to you, kris. the city of santa clara's auditor commissioned proves they owe $2 million for the running of the stadium. they think the audit is riddld d with errors. the city wants them to cough up the money or face legal action. $894,000 was used for construction money. $718,000 for unpaid parking fees and more for staff costs. these unpaid amounts are a violation which prohibits tax money to be paid for this. they said they failed to bill them for the $984,000 and that the city wasted money on an audit to have revealed that previous unpaid amount. the mayor of santa clara admits they need to do a better job. the first step is to hire a city manager with experience managing large stadiums like levi's. >> santa clara was ill prepared to manage a stadium of this magnitude. we're changing things and we're fixing it. >> reporter: mayor dilmore is demanding they pay up money owed to the city. >> hopefully they'll cooperate and produce the documents, but if not, w

within the last few minutes, investigators reached out to nbc bay area's bob redell. what have they said about this? >> they found the body of a san francisco woman in rural contra costa county. we're on the border with byron. we talked to a resident that lives along this road, and she said this is a road that leads to a sand mine that was found yesterday afternoon. she knows this because she saw law enforcement here and she was able to go up and look at it based on blood stains. people who found the body say to her the body had been wrapped in carpet and it had been dead for at least a couple of days based on level of decomposition, though they believe the body was dumped yesterday afternoon somewhere in the 3:35 time frame. of course, law enforcement arriving here about 15 minutes later according to the contra costa county sheriff's office. sheriffs have identified this woman as being from san francisco. they do have her identity, in other words, they know who she is, but they are not releasing that as of yet until notification of next of kin. they are performing an

"today in the bay's" bob redell joins us live in dublin outside of the east county hall of justice where this all ended and, bob, what's the very latest? >> reporter: good morning to you, sam and laura. in four hours from now one of the suspects in the violent murder in chicago is expected in court here in dublin where a superior court judge is expected to order that wyndham lathem, a microbiology professor at northwestern university, expected to order him extradited back to chicago to face charges in the murder of trenton cornell-duranleau, a 26-year-old hairstylist found stabbed to death late last month inside lathe ep's downtown chicago. they have been looking for him in a manhunt that crisscrossed the country. he turned himself in to ma marshals. andrew warren, a payroll worker at the university of oxford england surrendered to san francisco police. they believe lathem was in a personal relationship with his victim but have not released the motive. it's not clear what warren's relationship is with either of the men. in an odd twist on the day of the murder police say one of the men m

bob redell live at city hall with what they're learning so far. >> reporter: within the past 30 minutesspoke with mayor gilmore of santa dlar clara and she expects starting this thursday they will put the 49ers on 30 days' notice to pay up or face legal action. the city commissioned audit and it made 37 findings including that the 49ers owe santa clara nearly $2 million, about $900,000 for public safety spent out of a construction fund, and about 200,0 thousan200,000. they are in violation of the measure which prohibits it. the first step will be to hire a city manager with stadium managing experience. >> santa clara was ill-prepared to a stadium of this magnitude. we're changing things. >> reporter: the city of santa clara is demanding the release of documents relating. they have refused saying it would take away their negotiating power. there are ways to keep the docs confidential. we've e-mailed the 49ers for their response to this audit. the team has criticized the city for spending about $200,000 on an audit which only discovered an additional $150,000 in expenses owed to them. rep
