. ♪ good evening, welcome to washington, i'm bret baier.reaking tonight, the long awaited findings from the special prosecutor john durham looking into the beginnings of the probe of alleged collusion between then presidential candidate donald trump and russia. bottom line, durham finds that the investigation into the allegations should never have been launched. correspondent david spunt has our top story from the justice department. good evening, david. >> good evening, bret. john durham began his mandate to uncover the origins of the trump-russia collusion probe on may 13th, 2019. here we are two years and four days later his final report is released. it's 30 # pages. bret, he calls some of the findings in his report sobering. let's take everyone back right now to 2016, 2017, when donald trump was running for then elected president. the investigation theme in the report durham says the fbi rushed an investigation code named crossfire hurricane without the proper legal basis he says quote at the direction of fbi deputy director andrew mcca

when i last saw you, less than 12 hours ago on "special report" with bret baier we were talking about the economy, banks and debt ceiling. how do you put this strong jobs number into the calculation and what comes out? >> actually, the big story here is it's not a strong jobs number because it turns out the two prior months were revised lower by a substantial amount. march was revised lower by 71,000 and february was revised lower by 78,000. that's a total of 149,000 lower reductions, which means from the number today, which is 253, actually on net you only increased jobs by 104,000, okay? that's awfully important because that's the way the math goes. so this was a sloppy number. the unemployment rate did stay down at 3.4%. one other number worth noting here, year-on-year increase in average hourly earnings, which means wages, was up 4.4%. we don't have an inflation number for april yet, dana, but the cpi in march was 5%. so this looks to be another number under water where inflation is rising higher than wages. you know, the real wage decline has been going on for over two years. the
