i am brianna keilar.n room." >>> tonight, more than 400 local, state and federal officers are hunting for three suspected cop killers. the manhunt has been under way for more than a day now after an officer north of chicago radioed he was chasing three suspicious men on foot. the officer's body was discovered later. police admit the suspects may have left the town and even the state. investigators are concentrating on a 17 minute time line, looking through surveillance video from the area. our correspondents and experts have been working sources on the story all day, and all of the other developing news that we are following. we want to begin with cnn national correspondent ryan young. he is in fox lake, illinois. give us the latest. >> reporter: we're outside the police department, that 17 minute time line will be important as they start to analyze the video they're going through. the surveillance video we talked to several store owners about yesterday. you can see the outpouring from the community here,

>> that's right, brianna. it happened about 8:00 this morning, that appears that there was reason for this police officer to begin pursuing these three individuals. he was on foot as you mentioned and was chasing the three individuals when it appears he radioed in for help for backup. that's when the radio went dead and it appears one of the individuals turned an perhaps shot him. the three individuals are believed to be armed. they were on foot but it's not clear whether they had a vehicle nearby. it's not even clear as to why this officer alone began chasing these three men and all of that clearly under consideration and under investigation. but we do know the sheriffs are involved. the atf is involved. you have local police. this is a community and everybody has been warned to stay indoors. you've got canines that are being used which does indicate that at least they do have some belief, authorities, that, in fact, these three men are on foot. there's also air surveillance, you can see the helicopter lookin
