(steve ) in san francisco. a ceremony was held on the golden gate bridge . to announce approval for construction of a new suicide deterrent system. golden gate bridge officials plan to build a safety barrier along the popular one point seven mile long bridge. and although the new barrier is designed to prevent someone from committing suicide. it will not prevent someone from getting hurt. the construction will cost $204 million dollars. caltrans, the mtc and the bridge district will cover the bulk of that. installation of the net will begin in 2018 and scheduled to be complete in 2021.
