for buzzfeed. when i was a united states attorney, we used to debate this issue not commonly but not infrequently. and that is when a report comes out in some newspaper or in some media outlet that has a lot of things correct but it has a few things incorrect, like who is the object of scrutiny or what documents we have or mischaracterizes things in a certain way, usually our plan was to keep our mouths shut. you can do more harm by talking than not talking. sometimes it was egregious enough you felt like you had to make some statement. kind of like what peter carr did here. the problem then is, you don't want to edit their piece and say, among these 15 facts -- you become their editor. you become a party to letting them know secret confidential information. i think it is fine and proper what the special counsel's office did. they had to do it. it must have been extraordinarily difficult to decide to do it. it took them 24 hours -- or 20 hours do it. they're not going to get answers -- buzzfeed is
