we are 1 1/2 miles west of the 680-84 interchange directly off niles canyon road. the train was going westbound so it is moving from right to left on the screen. union pacific now says the front of the train hit a mud slide that also contained a downed tree not a lone tree like was initially reported. so the train hit a mud slide. it derailed, slid off the embankment into the creek where it's partially submerged. heavy equipment is about 100 yards away removing railcars one by one transporting them away. it will take much of the day today to get to that dangling railcar and once they do, crews will drag the car back up the hill, set it on either the tracks or another flatbed and haul it away. this all happened a 7:30 last night on "ace" train 10 from san jose to stockton. here is francisco castillo with union pacific to talk about the clean-up effort. >> i don't think any derailment is an easy clean-up i think every derailment has its different, you know, variables to determine whether or not how quick they can actually get that cleared up. but we have the equipmen

an ace train has derailed in niles canyon. you are looking now at some up close video of the wreckage. a short time ago, a ktvu photographer was escorted down to alameda creek where you can see the overturned train is in the water. we're told that creek is rain swollen and the water really gushing there. now, we were told that everyone on board has now been accounted for. there were 14 people that were injured. four of whom were seriously hurt. as we had been reporting, emergency personnel have been able to remove all of the passengers from that derailed train. >>> altogether, there were 200 passengers on board the train. live pictures from the alameda county fairgrounds, in pleasanton, here's what's happening, those are relatives, family members, friends of the people on board, they are waiting now for all of the passengers to be bused from the accident scene to the county fairgrounds. this ace train started in san jose and it was on its way to stockton. it had stops in pleasanton and livermore. again, more than 200 people on

ace trains are traveling more slowly through niles canyon. iles canyon. normally the speed limit is 40 miles per hour. today they'll be going 10 miles per hour. people are out from monitoring the tracks to make sure there are no problems. the ace trains should be arriving five to ten minutes late because they are traveling more slowly through niles canyon. most of the passengers we talked to this morning say they have no reservations about getting on board today. union pacific has extra people monitoring tracks in the niles canyon area. another things pastiers are noticing is trains are less crowded. according to early numbers ridership is down. we talked to who took the first train at 4:20 this morning when they got here they got off and said it seemed less crowded than usual. first passengers here got on board the ace train at 5:30. i spoke with an ace train representative who says according to their early numbers ridership is down slightly. ace train five has been delayed 15 minutes. there are other delays on ace trains because they are taking things s
