carolyn johnson >> good afternoon, commissioners. i'm carolyn johnson the president of the san francisco forest alliance. i think this is fantastic anything we can do to promote trees in san francisco is all to the good. i want to put it in prospective. i love the fact to plant 50 thousand street trees but meantime one hundred and 70 thousand of the seven hundred trees are regarded by rec and park as invasive. every tree in san francisco is evasive. all trees are valuable and none of them should be regarded as invasive. i agree it's worth all the money to maintain the street trees but let's keep in mind there's plans to destroy 18 thousands of them in our parks. and those trees are by and large much larger than those street trees. so while we are working hard developing the urban forest plan we need to keep in mind departments are doing things contradict to this goal. we need to be preserving exiting trees and plant more. and not removing any trees at all unless there's a danger to humans or structures. >> thank you. >> sue hester wh

i'm carolyn johnson. >> abc 7 news alan wong is live in hercules with the story.>> that elderly man was struck in this crosswalk with only one witness. good police work by detectives who had a hunch that one of the buses may have caught it on videotape. they took the exact time and matched it up with the bus schedule and bingo. you are looking at video from a transit bus that captured a 70-year-old man just before he gets hit by a dark suv. the vehicle stops and moves forward, knocking him out of the frame. what happens next is what shocks police. >> the driver got out, looked at the victim and a witness passing said is he okay and the driver said he is breathing. the driver got back in his vehicle, backed up and drove around the victim and drove away. >> this happened around 6:30 in the morning in hercules. >> unbelievable. what kind of human being would do that? >> it's a caucasian male in his 40s about 6'2", 220 pounds and balding. the crosswalk on and off-ramp can be dangerous. >> occasionally we get cars that don't stop. they get off the freeway and keep goin

. >> i'm carolyn johnson. it happened on yosemite circle in oakley. that's where alan wang is live tonight with the latest. alan? >> carolyn and dan, one neighbor says he was surprised to hear that the family had a gun inside the house. apparently they did and tonight around 7:00 an 11-year-old boy who lives in this home picked up the gun and accidentally shot himself in the head. it happened somewhere in the house here in the town of oakley. emergency crews radioed for a medical helicopter while they were working on the boy, but called it off just before it landed after the boy died in this ambulance. they say he lived here with his mother, father and grandmother, and they rarely associated with the rest of the neighborhood. >> he walked his dogs. i think his dog's name was baby. he was sweet. >> brief conversations. seemed nice. surprising. this is a quiet neighborhood. >> it is unclear how the boy got uh hold of the gun and exactly who owns it. neighbors say the father, the mother and the grandmother are all nurses and the boy goes to a private cath

. >> i'm carolyn johnson. abc7 news reporter nick smith is live near city hall at van ness and grove where this all happened. >> take a look over my shoulder. you can see there are seven lanes of traffic. police tell me a man was crossing this busy section of van ness avenue when he was struck and killed by a driver that had no time to react. this was the scene of an accident of a man crossing van ness after 7:00 p.m. san francisco police with the collision investigation unit tell abc news the victim was a 38-year-old man. witnesses told investigators the vehicle tim had been in some sort of verbal altercation with another man earlier. but police tell us they do not believe that played a role in the victim's death. what they do know is that the victim started on the west side of van ness avenue and attempted to cross the busy street at least twice before stoping on the center median. >> when trying to go from the center median to the eastside they made it across two lanes and then was struck in the far right h
