it's worse at the carquinez bridge.ls, the goal for having this congested toll was there would be less traffic. but the cars are crawl i aing long -- crawling along. the numbers released by the metropolitan transportation commission show the numbers have grown to 9,000 a hour. the point of having congestioned pricing was to encourage drivers to travel before and after the commute. the numbers printed in the chronicle taken in april and early may show 127,000 cars crossed the bridge. 8500 cars by 6:00 a.m. and got up to 9,000 cars as you would see before the congestioned pricing. during the commute drivers pay $6 to cross the bridge instead of $4. officials say a possible reason may have something to do with the better economy and people don't have the luxury to wait to get to work during these peak commute times. there are a few drivers who pull over to the side. just minutes before the 10:00 a.m. deadline to avoid paying the extra toll. the chp says if you do that, you will get ticketed. very busy as you approach the b

towards the east shore freeway and you can see the traffic here is busy. 36-minute drive time from the carquinez bridge to the mcarthur maze. when you get to the toll plaza you will see traffic lighter than it normally is for this time. there are no major problems getting on to the bridge. a 20-minute drive time to san francisco, which is substantially low are. southbound 680, concord to walnut creek, we have slow traffic as you drive to the walnut creek interchange. westbound 24 is also slow.

traffic times have more than doubled on 80 between the carquinez bridge for the entire stretch of the freeway down to the macarthur maze, 42 minutes. remember, when it's going well, it's 17 or 18 minutes. we're seeing traffic times that have spiked a little bit. not as bad as they could. on monday, we had a terrible day. 42 minutes is the average drive time. at the bay bridge, the average drive time getting into san francisco is 30 minutes if you are counting from the end of the line unless you are in the carpool lane, remember, chp does enforcement on that carpool lane. the last few days i've seen them out there looking for the right amount of people or the right sticker. just remember, the tickets are expensive. don't do it unless you have the right amount of people. 680 southbound, we've had gravel and dirt spilled, southbound 680 near highway 84. traffic is sold out from pleasanton near the 580/680 interchange. that's a terrible exchange. some of these drive times, as you can see, are up, including the one on the bottom. 580 grant line road to 680 is 40 minutes. back to the desk.

but just to let you know, 80 from the carquinez bridge to the macarthur maze.that's about five times the normal drive time getting down to the toll plaza. so what you might want to do is think about public transit or put it off for a while. let's go to the bay bridge toll plaza. i'm sorry. we're going to 880 first and then to the toll plaza. 880 northbound at fifth. we had a crash. don't use 880. use 580 instead if you can. 880 is a big mess out of san leandro getting up to downtown oakland. the other way, southbound is not bad. westbound bay bridge, it's been slow. we had a stalled car. we had people slowing on the span. a lot of people going at it at the same time. this is a 40-minute plus delay if you start counting near the maze. so again, don't get angry, plan ahead. take transit or just adjust your plans to when you are gonna get there. let's go back to the desk. >>> the fire season is off to a quick start. just yesterday, firefighters in the south bay responded to at least nine firefighters. they are still busy this morning. janine de la vega joins us li

it's a 32 minute drive from the carquinez bridge to the macarthur maze. this week during some of the worst times, this drive was an hour, double what it is now. when there's no traffic, it's about 15 minutes. still, 32 minutes for this time of the morning is actually pretty good. bay bridge toll plaza. same thing goes. we have about a 25 minute drive time from oakland across the bridge into san francisco. and if you're approaching the bridge, my best bet for you is to use 880, especially if you have fast track, get over to the right as soon as possible. you'll get on the bridge quicker are with no issues. looking at the commute on 680 from concord to walnut creek. it's not bad and 580 through livermore. noticeably lighter. slow traffic in dublin. in the south bay 280 is beginning to fill in. 85 is okay, and we talked about the carquinez bridge commute. 880 between 238 and fremont, only 17 minutes. that's actually pretty good for this time of the morning. it's 8:02. >>> topping our news at 8, new developments about several suspicious fires in novato early
