the carson show made it very clear that, if you did her show, you were no longer welcome on "the carsonas well as foxx had hoped, that i started meddling and kind of took the power away from her husband. >> my dad, edgar, did all the business. he did all the negotiations. he did everything to make sure that all my mom ever had to do was be funny and charming and loved. but it got so petty that, when they would send the car every day to pick up my mom, the rule was my father was not allowed to ride in the limo with her. the whole-fox show just became this giant cluster. >> i can't remember how long it stayed on. but it was less than a year. >> and it just was a very fast and sad demise. and it was so bad, that it was, i believe, one of the factors that sent my father into such a massive depression. that he killed himself. from the notes he left and from knowing my father, he really felt the only way to save her was to go away. my mom pulled herself out of it, because that's just who she is. she was completely blackballed. she was never allowed back on any nbc late-night show, until jimmy

he grew up in carson city attended carson high school got his law degree and then for a short period of time in the early 50s served as the district attorney of ormsby county, which is now carson city. that was his first kind of instance of being in political office. from there. he kind of worked his way through the rungs of the political system in nevada becoming the lieutenant governor in 1962. became the governor in 1967. and that's kind of an important point in 1967 when he was running for governor. ronald reagan was also running for governor of california. two men had met in 1964 at a barry goldwater rally in california. where ronald reagan was speaking and obviously ronald reagan would have been notable to people in california at the time due to being in movies. so paul ax salt and ronald reagan as respective governors of their neighboring states, california and nevada one of their big initiatives that they work together on was was really the the conservation of the lake tahoe basin and lake tahoe the lake itself. they formed what was called the tahoe regional planning agency t
