meteorologist cecily tynan is live at the big board with the forecast. hi, cecily. >> hi, rick. we do warm up even a little bit more tomorrow. right now philadelphia 52 degrees. we hit a high of 54 degrees which is very appropriate since today's official average high is 54 degrees for our first day of spring and one month with that sun angle getting higher, temperatures really soar. the average high for april 20th is 66 degrees. now, satellite and radar showing we did start the day with loads of sunshine, blue skies. some clouds are beginning to stream in. if you look out across the ohio valley there is some moisture but most of this is heading to the south. so, we could get a.m. spotty shower or two tonight but for the most part we'll just have some clouds o. temperatures will not be dropping to freezing tonight. it will stay relatively warm and this week we have some wild swings in temperatures. it's going to be very cold on wednesday with wind chills in the 20's. could hit 70 on saturday. it's mainly dry this week until the second half of the weekend. i'll talk more about tha

meteorologist cecily tynan is live at the big board with the latest information. >> jim, the system is loaded with moisture much it's very big. the center of the storm that's really taking over is south of our region and well to the north, heavy snow in parts of new england, more than a foot of snow and south some severe weather, tornado watches are posted and there's a tornado warning near norfolk virginia and we're actually detecting some of that circulation. you can see that cylinder there, that's what's known as a low level lock. it's reaching the ground and that's an indication of a possible tornado down there. fortunately here we're not getting the severe weather. we're getting the steady rain and zooming in on double scan live you can see that the steady rain is now really focused across new jersey along the new jersey turnpike and areas to the east. philadelphia getting a break in the action. west of philadelphia the steady rain has tapered off to showers. that's an indication the storm system is lifting away from us. so, we'll gradually be tapering off as far as rain tonight.

meteorologist cecily tynan live at the big board to explain. >> bad timing. i think a lot of people would like to see that blue sky through the weekend. that's not going to happen for awhile. double scan live showing this area of moisture that's moving in in the form of snow, sleet and rain and what will happen, that moves in, low pressure meanders along that and that will bring us some light precipitation. what you get really depends on where you are but the national weather service has issued winter weather advisories for lancaster, berks, lehigh, northampton counties and the poconos tomorrow morning starting at 6:00 through sunday morning at 6 o'clock. i really think the key time to watch for any accumulating snow will be saturday night into sunday morning. late tonight into tomorrow morning, we do get some of that light precipitation moving in. starts as some light snow north and west along i-95 starts as a mix, rain south and east but tomorrow temperatures climb into the 40's. so that means any of the snow or sleet will change over very quickly to rain s

meteorologist cecily tynan is at the big board with more on the forecast. cecily. >> reporter: hi, rick, good news for those ski resorts. as you can see they need to make some snow. cold air is here to stay. double scan live showing we're still dealing with some scattered snow showers, philadelphia an hour ago they had a 10 minute ground stoppage at the airport. now there's a line of snow showers in chester and montgomery and bucks counties zooming in the most robust shower we have is on 202, 611 near doylestown. these will continue to push off the coast as we head into the early evening. this is what to expect tonight. some early snow showers, maybe some squalls, isolated grassy coast guard. i have seen some in reading, in doylestown briefly reducing visibility. that's the problem with these occurring during the evening commute. shouldn't cause any problems on the roads. grounds just too warm for that. behind this system we have a reinforcing shot of even colder air. this is going to be the coldest weekend since early february. tomorrow morning wind chills

. >>> meteorologist cecily tynan here with the winds from the storm and the impact on the coast. >> the coast really did take a beating with the winds. these are tropical storm force winds a reporting 62 miles per hour and tucker ton 62 and dover owe 60 and fortescue 61 and atlantic city a peak wind gust7 miles per hour. future tracker 6 showing the winds will gradually diminish through the evening hrs but still:30 tonight ind gusts of 4er hour. but if you look at the arrows they are coming from the west. pushes the water out so we won't have to deal with coastal flooding tonight. tonight though scattered snow showers around and the winds will continue to be gusty. a good idea now cars and driveways, and treat them because as adam mentioned there is a hard freeze overnight and temperatures dropp to the teens and 20s. tomorrow morning's rush hour use caution a lot ofspots, especially sidewalks and driveways. and you may not want to spend time outdoors tomorrow and windchills are in the single digitsy do not climb much in the afternoon and we'll talk about the chill in the way coming up i

cecily tynan has a look at the first full day of spring. looking for skiers. >> spring mountain is not open right now. but this is a sign of what they have to do, they are fighting the high mark sun angle. last week it was covered in snow and now seeing a lot of bare patches. average high is 54 and we did about 5 degrees better than that. philadelphia 55 and allentown and trenton 58 and uniform temperatures 58 in millville and dover and atlantic city airport you get the land breeze, currently 60 degrees, today was the hop sit of yesterday yesterday we had the soon and clouds and today we had the clouds in the morning and sunshine in the afternoon but if you look to the north you see this band of clouds and snow showers this is an arctic front that is rolling through here. no snow or rain and behind it the winter chill makes tremendous come back tomorrow. so tonight partly cloudy and the wins picking upright around dawn, philadelphia 35 and allentown and trenton and reading below freezing be careful of refreeze there and wilmington 35 degree

cecily tynan has the good, the bad and the snowy. >> we are 12 days away from the start of spring andentering our stormiest and coldest pattern of winter. you may not like it, but people do. there are die hards out here at the ski resorts. notice we see less snow and more grass with three days of temperatures in the 60s but snow is on the way tomorrow and swra potential for more significant storm on tuesday. but right now, feels like spring, 67 degrees in philadelphia and third day of temperatures in the 60s, allentown 61 and wilmington 61 and atlantic city airport 67 degrees. if you look north and west you see there is coder air. cleveland 42 and sault st. marie 24 and when you get a big contrast of temperatures it sets the boundary layer and there is a battle going on and with that we have precipitation beginning to break out doesn't look like much but all indications are that this system will really intensify into our region in the overnight hours. the snow and rain arriving late tonight and after midnight 31 degrees and 37 degrees for center city and future tracker timing it out.
