for now we continue to stay clear in central maryland. more active weather has been pushing south down into kentucky. the overall setup is tropical high pressure. at any given time you can get the pop-up storms. the big thing we feel no matter where you are is the excessive heat. 97 degrees. this is a hot temperature on the way tomorrow. we think closer to 99 and then the heat bubble expands eastwarden saturday. so the really hot weather west of us, we think will overspread. we'll hit the low 100's saturday. saturday one of the hottest days of the year. we could break the record. chances for storms look pretty minimal. overnight 77, prop cal, steamy and isolated storm. it's going to be a very hot day tomorrow. we'll say 100. it will feel like 100 easily. actually 105, 110 with the heat index. jamie, i'm sorry to sound like a broken record. it will get a little worse before it gets better. 102 on saturday, the peak of the heat wave. next week into the upper 80s, so there's relief in sight. the end is in sight but it will get somewhat worse

being over 65 with these types of temperatures and it feels more like 101 on your scan around central maryland. it feels like 101 at the beach on the shore. because of these temperatures, as don mentioned, we have a heat advisory in effect for all those orange shaded counties, including baltimore city that just went into effect at noon, stays with us until 8 p.m. on the shore where you see the red colors that's an excessive heat warning that goes into effect on saturday. we're expecting these temperatures to continue to rise. for more we sent it to marty bass. >> reporter: good afternoon. i want to show you a graphic that -- just to be honest all the cards face up on the table i think we're being conservative in our heat index numbers. i'm going to give you a for example. today we're talking about 98 with a heat index of 103. well, we're at 94 now with the heat index of 101. we're looking at 5 to 7 degrees bump up in the feel of the moment. so the 103 and 103 today and tomorrow at 98 may be too low. what if we have to put a 7 degree on saturday's 103, 110 heat index. sunday 95 with still 100 t

i think there's a possibility across north central maryland, western maryland, probably after 8:00 tonight, we may see some of these storms if they hold together in the region, and some could have very strong, gusty winds, even damaging winds and small hail and dangerous lightning. that is certainly a possibility. another batch, further north and west, may get us during the sunrise tomorrow. so we do have a chance of thunderstorms that will cool temperatures down. but it's also going to create more humid atmosphere. right now, it's still clear out. 95 degrees. but the dew points still rather low. 83 in ocean city. d.c. at 97. and the dew point at 58. 95 actually feels like 94. so going, not in the positive but going in the negative direction, which is a good thing. however, later this week, upper 90s, it's going toet go -- to get more humid. we'll probably be looking at heat indexes over 100 pretty much the rest of the week. bernadette has a look at those temperatures once again. >> it's not even that we're breaking records with this heat. it's just that it's so continuous. i want to show

most of central maryland steaming. i don't want to use the word baking. steam is a better word with the dew point numbers up in the 70-degree range. that is oppressive. you cool the air to 70. you have 100% relative humidity. so that is some absolutely oppressive humidity and the air temp 101. with any humidity, that's outrageous heat. just enough to stir the air. we'll take it. it will not make a difference. the overall pattern is a hot one with scattered pop-up storm convex over the east -- convection over the east. it's pushing it to the dpfl course, southern alabama. we will get a taste of that on saturday, we think. so our heat bubble, the most intense part where they're not low 100's, i don't think it edges into tomorrow. tomorrow will be close to 100. more intense heat, ratchets up the heat saturday before we get a break. overnight 77. tom your two-degree darn -- guarantee just as hot. tomorrow night 80 or so. i don't think we'll get much below 80. we you have that warm of a start first thing inorning, that's how you can get to 102. the old record

he mentioned these showers in western and north central maryland, places like that. generally moving southward. there is some lightning associated with the storm which is generally moved from hagerstown down towards frederick, maryland. if you are traveling along 270 up in that area and if you are near frederick, particularly between frederick and hagerstown, there are a couple of spots of heavy rain and some lightning so a little bit of thunderstorm activity there. again, this is associated with a cold front. all of this should die down as the morning progresses but we'll keep our eyes on it for you. temperatures across the region, we are in the 70s. 76-degree here in washington. 79 in quantico. 72 in cull ander. annapolis is at 80 degrees and salisbury is at 81 degrees. there is the big picture. you can see the general motion of that precipitation but again, we do expect it to dissipate for the most part before it gets to the washington area. -- 72 in culpeper. about a 30% chance of an afternoon shower or thunderstorm. we will see muggy conditions. it will be warm.
