also joining us from london is chatman bell.than 1 million people expected to be right where you are at. how do the security measures look so far, and of course it is early on? >> reporter: it is early on, but we are seeing an increased security presence out here as police set up the barricades that are going to kind of keep people penned in and make patrolling a little bit easier. officials say the security measures are more enhanced. we're talking about 6,000 police officers patrolling times square. also bomb-sniffing dogs, radiation and chemical detectors. and it's not just here on the ground, they're down in the subway. so you've got officers out on the water and watching above from the air. they know this is one of the most-watched new year's celebrations in the world, as you mentioned. more than 1 million people expected to attend in person. and so they need that massive security response to keep things safe from people that come from all over the world, quite honestly, to watch that ball drop and to ring in the new year.
