nbc 10's jesse gary is live along the picket line outside of crozer-chester medical center. jesse?>> reporter: we talked last hour about the strike. now that it started at 7:00, you can see the picketers walking outside crozer-chester medical center. let me give you the back story. nurses tell me this goes back to 2011 and the end of their last contract and the beginning of their current contract. at that point they said they had about 700 nurses and since that time, until now, they are down about 25% of their rank. that's led to this staffing shortages that they say have brought them out here to the picket lines today. >> the community needs to see what is going on. i think they need to hear our stories. we can't share all of those stories on the inside. coming out here and letting them see how we feel about what's going on in there and how we support them, we're here for them, i think they need to see us out in numbers. >> reporter: and the medical center released a statement saying we have a contingency staffing plan in place. licensed, certified, experienced nurses will provide
