ling has the chp s take on this months long investigation, dave. we're talking three months and we're talking power tools, clothes, hygiene products, all of it recovered at an oakland property. this was not what chp was expecting when they served an arrest and search warrant wednesday. in fact, they were originally looking for stolen car parts as part of an investigation involving a bright green camaro. yeah they did shut the bridge down. february's bainbridge sideshow featured burning rubber smoke in some very colorful participants in the vehicle in question was a very distinctive green camaro. so much so that chp tracked it down following another sideshow in march, eventually impounding the car as per protocol. what wasn't standard modifications under the hood after making this stop on this green camaro officers started investigating what appeared to be stolen parts that were installed. on the vehicle. on wednesday, the owner of the hot rod 37 year old christian del toro, was arrested in oakland in the 1100 block of 84th avenue. a search warrant

you've been talking with the chp this morning. do they have a clearer picture at this point of what happened? >> reporter: they are talking to witnesses, but what we do no is that three people who were killed were initially involved in what was a minor accident. they got out of their vehicles to survey the damage, and that's when they were hit and killed by other vehicles who were coming along the way. this happened along northbound 101 between the lawrence expressway and fair oaks avenue in sunnyvale around 12:30 this morning. a driver of a pickup truck lost control and hit the center divide with such force it blew out a large chunk of that concrete barrier. two other vehicles came along. they collided with debris from the pickup truck. three men got out of their cars to survey the damage, then three more vehicles collided in a chain reaction. at least one vehicle ran into the men. two of those men were thrown over the divide into the lanes of the southbound direction of 101, where they were both hit by another car. and a third p

two crashes, chp says never should have happened. the first in san jose involved a tow truck driver , truck driver got out of the vehicle and went into the lanes to retrieve something. that's where he was struck and killed. friends identify him as samuel rivera and say he leaves behind a three year old son. oh truck's dashcam recorded a white toyota rav four, leaving the scene. this person did not stop at the scene later near fremont, another hit and run in this case , it began as a single car accident. two good samaritans, a man and a woman stopped to help. another car came along a ford f 1 50 crashed into that whole scene, killing one of the good samaritans. the woman instantly . that driver left his truck and took off on foot. the fact of the matter is that the freeway is not a safe place for you or for us, and that is the message. chp wants to get out. it's not a good idea to stop on the freeway. even if you think you're helping if you don't need to be out of the vehicle don't be out of the vehicle. they say the risk that you'll
