joining us now, democratic senator chris coons. i want to begin where i began with senator cotton. your reaction to president trump's allegations that his phones were tapped by president obama. >> well, chris committee is a remarkable allegations. another attempt by president trump to change the subject. this deserves sole investigation. the larger point i will agree with senator cotton is up in the best interest of our country for us to move forward promptly and get to the bottom of all of this. i believe that no president should ever directly order an interceptor wiretap. that's not what our system provides. you have to go in front of a judge and get a warrant to conduct a wiretap. one of two things have happened. either president trump has inappropriately released classified information and was himself the subject of a court ordered wiretap or i think a very remote possibility there was an inappropriate actions by the previous administration. in either case, it doesn't help our country for this to all be worked out on twitter. it ought to be worked out in a full, fair, prompt and

we talked to chris coons earlier in this program. had to say. >> my gut instinct is to be against it. i would have to see the details. it is true that other countries impose other taxes. there is a way we could create a border adjusted tax that would actually pass muster and not create a trade war with some of our opponents. david: you were against a border adjustment tax. is that an impediment to getting tax reform through the congress? >> i hope not. let's be clear. the border of adjustment tax is only to pay for the corporate tax rate and the repatriation tax reduction and to simplify the individual tax code. will are three things that actually grow the economy. the only reason border adjustment is being talked about is to pay for those. i don't believe it's necessary. the u.k. in 2009 reduced their corporate rate from 30 to 20. they didn't have a scoring model. they knew the economy would more than pay for that over time and i believe that as well. alix: that's a lot of ifs. would you vote for a tax reform without order tax adjus

let's get more with democratic senator chris coons of delaware, a member of the foreign relations committee like your reaction to the news that the republicans actually pulled the obamacare repeal and replace bill before their scheduled vote. give me your quick immediate reaction. there are other issues i want to discuss. >> well, wolf, i think this is good news for the 14 million americans and tens of thousands of delawareans who would have lost access to health care almost immediately. i think this republican repeal and replace plan for the affordable care act collapsed under its own weight because it wasn't thoroughly worked out. they can't force through in just a few weeks what should take years of thorough legislating preparation and hearings to get done, which is a responsible replacement that would fix and repair the affordable care act. wolf, what we heard today from president trump was he's beginning to realize that governing is hard. he unfortunately blamed democrats rather than taking any responsibility for the failure of this signature legislative initiative. and it's frankly im
