chris gordon continues the coverage at beaver stadium with a look at this weekend's game. chris? >> reporter: well, good evening. i have been on campus a couple hours. you get the feeling the students realize this is bigger than the firing of joe paterno. it involves allegations of a cover up of child sex abuse. now, behind me you can see a tradition of penn state university. it's called paternoville. it's named for joe paterno. 82 tents erected by the stadium. they have spent all week since monday out in the cold, eating, sleeping and studying, then going to classes. all to get front row seats for this weekend's game against nebraska. this is paternoville. a lot of these students are now preparing for what that game means now that coach joe paterno will not be on the sidelines. we talked to some of them this evening. >> the game is saturday for joe and the victims are going to wear blue. penn state to show our support for the victims of sexual abuse and support joe we want him one more game, let him stay. >> the focus should be on the victims not joe paterno or penn state univer

chris gordon joins us with the story. chris? >> maryland, virginia and the district all have laws requiring professionals to report child abuse. they can impose a $300 fine and jail sentence if it's ignored. in virginia, a $500 civil penalty. now maryland is considering changing its law to make it a crime. more change could come in the wake of the penn state child abuse scandal. football coach joe paterno fired for not reporting to police information about jery sandusky, caught in a shower abusing a young boy in the penn state facilities caught by mike mcqueary. reporting suspected abuse by teachers, police, social workers and health practitioners. they could lose their job for not doing so. they could reconsider a bill to make it a crime for anyone who fails to report abuse. the chairman of the committee -- >> it's a misdemeanor if you see child abuse and fail to report it. you are subject to a significant fine, but not jail time. i think that's a good balance and i think it's chances of enactment this year are pretty good. >>

chris gordon here with the latest. chris? >> reporter: the report says the additional victims came forward after all the news surrounding sandusky's arrest. the growing number of potential witnesses against him makes it even more puzzling why sandusky went on national tv to protest his innocence. the scandal cost famed football coach joe paterno his job for failing to report his friend. and now maryland may make it mandatory to alert authorities when you have evidence of child abuse. in the wake of penn state's child abuse scandal, maryland could consider changing its law. republican state senator nancy jacobs wants to require reporting child abuse. failure to do so could be punishable by imprisonment. the image of penn state students rioting after football coach joe paterno was fired for not reporting information about his assistant jerry sandusky getting caught with a young boy will not soon fade. now sandusky is denying the allegations. in an interview on nbc bob costas asked specifically about the 2002 incident. >> okay.

chris gordon as more from the campus. >> the penn state students don't want to be remembered for the riting this week. they want to be thought of for their traditions, for their caring and their sharing. they made it clear tonight at a candle light vigil for the victims of child sex abuse. it began with music. thousands of people gathered together holding candles, filling the lawn with light. we asked students from our area why they came? >> right now it is not all about joe paterno and the administration. they messed up but we have to help out the kids. >> this is a horrible tragedy but we have to rise above. >> reporter: two victims of abuse not connected with the scandal today spoke. there were tears. this is a way to remember those who were sexual abused not with violence like on tuesday night expressing frustration that joe paterno was fired for not telling police that his aide was caught with a boy at a penn state shower. they spoke of traditions of helping, caring and sharing. the bell at the clock tower at old main rang ten times for victims. there was a moment of silence for

let's get the latest from chris gordon at the coursehouse. >> reporter: closing arguments are under way. the prosecutor called norwood an actress, someone who staged the crime scene. this was a long, brutal attack, he said. but the defense, representing norwood said it was not premeditated, not deliberate, just the opposite. the defense saying britney norwood shows that she was someone who lost it. she was not in her right mind at the time this occurred. she was delusional. this followed the morning the jury saw the gruesome photographs from the autopsy report. they left the courtroom for the first time so they would not have to look at the nine graphic photographs of their daughter. the defendant's mother and sister left the courtroom. her father stayed and listened. she was behind the video display that faced the jury. she sometimes closed her eyes or stared straight ahead, showing no emotion. during the autopsy, she identified at least 331 wounds on the victim. 100 of them, defensive wounds as murray tried to fend off blows from her attacker. she was alive throughout all of this unti
