reporter chris welch is joining us from columbia, south carolina with all of the drama in this race. chris. >> reporter: good morning, dave. you are right. south carolina is a very, very important state. mitt romney may have thought he had this locked up. but you know what he may be waking up facing an entirely different story. you mentioned the drama that has happened in the last 24 hours. that was the case. yesterday we saw rick perry drop out of this case. there is four candidates left. also yesterday we saw the results change from a previous caucus. iowa the first in the nation state is now going to rick santorum. we had thought for a couple weeks now that mitt romney had had that locked up with eight votes. a very slim lead. turns out rick santorum came out ahead there. rick santorum one, mitt romney one, and now heading into south carolina a state that mitt romney had been in the lead. his lead is very, very slim. just a few points. some polls have put newt gingrich ahead of mitt romney. this is an entirely different race than it was two weeks ago. >> reporter chris welch. thank
