christina loren will tell you about the crisp day outside. the news at 11:00 starts right now. >>> good morning. thanks for being with us. i' i'm marla tellez. >> i'm jon kelley. union city police investigating a bizary hiizarre death. a young man stuffed in a trash can. we have bob redell with more. >> reporter: good morning, jon. we know the lady who lives in the home behind me on tenth street made the discovery sunday morning at 11:00. as she took out the trash, she noticed a bin that wasn't hers. she found a man slouched, feet at the bottom and head at the top. she recognized him at 21-year-old joshua perez. a family friend whom she watched grow up as a kid and sometimes stayed at her house. she and other family members tried to wake him. he was unresponsive, but still alive, but arrived at the hospital and later died. >> he was a good uncle and good brother to me. he was a good son. he didn't deserve to be put in a trash can. he's not garbage. >> reporter: that's joshua's older sister who is still trying to figure out what happened to he

meteorologist christina loren back here to talk about it.ast monday we were talking about record high temperatures. a little different this week. >> just absurd how cold it was. this morning you might find some frost on your windshield yet again the past couple days. hopefully you weren't up at 6:30 in the morning over the past couple days, but if you were, it was cold enough for frost in every single interior valley of the bay area. this morning we're running about 3 to 5 degrees warmer in most cities than we were just 24 hours ago and that's good news. relative humidity is increasing. 44 degrees in san francisco, 38 to start in napa. 36 in livermore. it is cold out there. 41 in oakland, which is actually very, very cold right by the water, so keep that in mind. we want to talk about showers on the way. what's happening is we've got this area of low pressure just lingering to our north. the tail end will sweep through the bay area but not until we hit tonight. if we do see any showers, the most likely location will be up in the north bay. y

christina loren always working very hard for us early in the morning. she has been tracking this weather. rain on the way for us, right? >> yeah, rain on the way. i'm concerned for people who are trying to get out of town today, although we're not expecting heavy rain until later on tonight. we are expecting flight delays, especially out of sfo with low ceilings in the forecast as early as this morning, and winds are picking up as well and will continue to as we head throughout the day today so keep that in mind. grab your jacket, grab that umbrella. the system for the most part stays to our north as high pressure is still in control. you can see the showers breaking apart before they hit the golden gate bridge. that will continue to be the trend throughout the day but that ridge will break down as we head throughout the second half of the day. starting to get our first showers here south of the golden gate bridge starting at about noon. we'll see the heaviest activity between 5:00 p.m. tonight and 5:00 a.m. tomorrow morning. we're talking about the pot

christina loren has been watching this all morning long, taking a look at what's going to happen with this rain coming in. what's the latest, christina? >> we've got a steady band of moisture getting ready to hit the bay area and the winds are picking up as well. these winds not nearly as strong as we're expecting them to ramp up to later on today. wind speeds some with between 20 to 30 miles per hour, stronger gusts up to 50 miles per hour expected as we head through the first part of the day and that area of low pressure moves onshore. it is starting to push onshore right now. what i'm talking about is this very heavy band of moisture getting ready to slam us just in time for your morning commute. right now it's timing out like this. the heavier rain will arrive in san jose in about 53 minutes. 22 minutes away from san mateo. before all is said and con, look at some of those totals. the first storm will hit the south bay the hardest. 2 inches expected in morgan hill. second storm, 2 inches in santa rosa. we'll time the system out to a tee coming up. first, let's check your drive. go

let's bring in meteorologist christina loren.ittle bit wet heading into the weekend on friday eve? >> a little bit wet. quite a stark contrast from where we started out the week. temperatures hit record levels. we almost broke all-time records in november in places like gilroy where just a couple days ago we had the low 90s. today we're talking about the upper 50s. the rain is moving in. we've got a pretty potent front but watch out as you head off to work. the rain will hold off until about noon. west-southwest wind at 18 miles an hour is nothing to mess with. 20 miles an hour in novato and strong winds picking up in oakland as well. these winds will continue as we head throughout the morning hours. we'll start to see them really pick up in the south bay as the front gets closer and closer to us. hold on to the steering wheel and watch out for debris. none today is when it starts to get very active around here. our first showers coming down from novato to san francisco. stop the clock for you at 3:00 p.m. starting to get wet in

for more on these coming storms, we check this with meteorologist christina loren. christina, i guess the question is, when should we expect storm number two? >> we have this unsettled pattern, jon and marla. we're already starting to see some prefrontal precipitation. want to start with this live picture over san jose although we're mostly dry in the south bay right now. you can see this camera has a shake to it. you can tell that a storm is rolling in. this is your brief break before the heavy rain returns. we'll time that out for you. what you will notice is we have very light showers moving from north to south at this point. that's going to continue to be the case throughout the next few hours. the bulk of the moisture doesn't arrive until tonight. winds are certainly picking up especially the areas closest to that front, wind gusts in excess of 47 miles per hour from time to time. just off the coast of sonoma county. that storm system is slowly making its way towards the bay area. but it will take time before it arrives. we are concerned about our major reiss on

meteorologist christina loren has your forecast. but we start things off with monte francis, who is live in san anselmo where creeks and rivers are at risk of flooding big-time. monte, good morning. >> reporter: well, jon, good morning. that's right, here in san anselmo they are always ready for a big storm. that's because there's a creek that runs through the center of town and it has been known to flood so the city has made sandbags and sand available to residents free of charge in preparation for the storm which is expected to start tomorrow. last time there was a problem with flooding here was in 2008, but the real devastating flood was in december of 2005 when the san anselmo creek flooded the streets of downtown san anselmo and many local businesses were under water. the reason this next storm is a concern here is because here in the north bay they're expecting 4 inches of rain during a matter of several days and those are exactly the kinds of conditions that can be trouble for san anselmo. the town is doing what it can do to

let's talk about that with meteorologist christina loren. she has a look at the forecast and what to expect. good morning. >> hey, good morning to you. yeah, the past three mornings we've been very close to that freezing mark in just about all of our interior valleys, starting with the reason why here in san jose. mostly clear conditions. getting a beautiful start to the day. you see that crescent moon. 6:01 now, the sun rises at about 6:37. 39 degrees in monterey, 40 in sacramento. so conditions across the state are cold paubecause it's clear everywhere now. expecting a little frost to form in fairfield, santa rosa, napa, novato. temperatures fall to about 36 degrees and you get that frost. bring in the sensitive plants as we are getting to the coldest part of the day. good-looking afternoon, though, highs in the mid-60s. tomorrow we get a few showers early and then we hit the 70s midweek. more rain on the way friday into the weekend. we'll time it out and show you how it looks on your seven-day. >>> it's 6:02. we're learning more about wha

meteorologist christina loren has a look at your forecast of course but we begin with bob redell, who is live at the bay bridge. we just saw a look at that live shot. yeah, plenty of fog there, bob. >> reporter: yeah, and it's very dense. there is dense fog in the north bay, san francisco, the upper peninsula and oakland. you can see live behind me this is the scene at the bay bridge toll plaza where we're certainly already seeing that early monday morning backup and perhaps, perhaps part of the reason why it's backing up so much is because of the dense fog. the national weather service has issued dense fog advisories for five of the bay area bridges, including the bay bridge. live look at the golden gate bridge cam, you can't even see the two towers of the golden gate bridge. there is a lot of dense fog there. the headlights heading southbound from marin into san francisco. you've also got advisories on the richmond-san rafael, benicia-martinez and the san mateo. all of those under advisories. according to our team of meteorologists, this could take some time to burn off because ther

christina loren says you might want to dress warmly, get ready for rain. she's here to tell us about it. >> good morning, you're making me hungry this morning. temperatures are crisp out there. we have 50s, couple 40s out there, but the winds are making it feel even cooler. west-southwest winds sustained at 16 miles per hour. 21 in oakland, 11 in fairfield and we're starting to see the winds pick up in the south bay as well as the front starts to push in. we're not expecting our first showers until 11:00 a.m. and mostly north of the golden gate bridge at that time. the system will sag to the south about noon getting our first showers from san francisco to oakland. then we stop the clock at 1:00 p.m. the heaviest rain coming through between 1:00 and 4:00 here in the south bay. highs will be cool nenough for jacket all day. 58 inland today, 57 by the bay and not much of a temperature spread at the coast today. only by about 2 degrees of warming, from 54 to 56 degrees in the heat of the day. we'll continue to see these showers tomorrow and continue to track t

christina loren is here to talk about our weather.now before we get some more of that wet stuff. >> yeah, we're going to get a little bit of a break. more rain on the way. but not everyone is going to get all the rain. it's kind of a traditional storm system for the bay area. i want to start by taking you outdoors and show you what we're experiencing right here right now. 55 in san francisco, 54 in stinson beach and 52 in petaluma so you'll need your coat this morning. you're chilly this morning down in gilroy at 44 degrees. so we take it to your satellite radar compilation. we do have some showers lurking to our north. the system will be kept out of the bay area and be nudged to the north throughout the day today as high pressure starts to build in. we've got a really good-looking day shaping up for your outdoor activities, any shopping or anything you've been putting off because of the rain. you've got about 24 hours before our next system arrives. the system will dive to the south throughout tomorrow and that will keep the jetstrea

we'll leave that to meteorologist christina loren. >> good morning to you. i have a pretty good handle on your forecast. i know it's a very busy weekend, a lot of people trying to get shopping done or you might be taking your travel plans into action. if you have family coming this way, make sure they're ready for the rain as well. all across the state of california this morning we're seeing these showers. it looks like the core of low pressure is going to cross just over us as we head throughout the next 24 to 36 hours. so we're about 58 minutes away from steady rainfall here in san jose. 47 minutes away from steady rainfall in sunnyvale. and about 40 minutes -- and 18 minutes away from places like portola valley. showers are now just starting to develop. it was relatively dry overnight and we've got a lot more rain on the way. you can see the steady batch quickly approaching the coastline. as we head throughout the day at that, temperatures are going to be a little bit on the mild side. 57 degrees. close to 60 in sunnyvale. we're at 55 in san jose, 51 degr

christina loren is watching our weather. you've been predicting and forecasting it, the rain is on the way. >> it is on the way. in fact it's spreading a little bit further to the south at this point. starting to get our first showers along the peninsula. i'll show you exactly where coming up. i wanted to show you what you are headed to work under this morning. a little bit of light rainfall, and you can see the highway here is nice and slick over the golden gate bridge. that's basically where the showers are kind of staying put. just to the north of the golden gate bridge. 6:17 now. you can see still people charging to work. a lot of people actually heading out for holiday travel. if you are one of those people, just want to keep in mind you're going to have two opportunities to do so without having to dodge the wet weather. so the first opportunity is right now, especially south of san jose, you can get out of town with nice, dry conditions. we're going to see these showers start to move in as we head through the second ha

we have christina loren with the forecast and monty francis out in the field. let's start with christina. >> i want to start with a live picture of san rafael. we are holding off on the rain until tonight. the main event arrives tomorrow morning. this is what we are expecting. the first storm will hit between 4:00 a.m. and noon tomorrow. we are talking about gusty winds gusting from 50-to-60 miles per hour at times. the second storm arrives, we will not have much dry out time between storm one and two, which moves late thursday into friday. we get a third system as we wake up on saturday morning. that will bring more rain into sunday. what are we talking about? we stop the clock on the futurecast from the first storm over an eight-to-nine hour period with 1 inch of rain in santa rosa. our roads are not equipped with this rainfall. let's stop the clock again into friday. the second system is packing more moisture. we ada additional 2 to 3 inches up in santa rosa and then over the course of the weekend, as the final system rolls through, look at the totals. we are

. >> and christina loren right now. >> we like to hear that, jon kelley. good morning for you. 48 degrees in san francisco. we're stuck together. 37 in napa and 46 in sonoma. as you are getting ready for the day, he is right on point, as usual. temperatures will be comfortable enough to eat outdoors. lots of sunshine, we had the rain come through so our air quality, yeah, usually cannot get any better than where it is right now. it's going to be just a beautiful day. high pressure is building in. what happens is we get this offshore flow. the marine layer is pushed out to sea. you don't have to worry about that thick fog. we are going to see some patchy fog but i don't expect it to be there for long. any fog that does develop will be at the coast or the extreme east bay creeping in from the delta. keep that in mind. overall we're looking mostly clear. we're expecting the mid to upper 60s everywhere across the bay ar area, even at the coast. tom the turkey, yep, that's tom the turkey, he likes to show up once a year. thanks for showing up, tom. back to you
