it's from michael bromwich who has just joined the legal team for christine blasey ford. as dr. lear since her experience was first made public, she has come guard because she believes it is her civic duty to make public about the sexual assault she experienced. you said you would provide a fair and respectful treatment with regard to blasey ford. however, mitch mcconnell dismissed her claim as a smear campaign, stating that written statements to the committee constitute, quote, a complete lack of evidence, implying there's been a thorough investigation. this and statements he has made previously are flatly inconsistent with your letter. he's saying you're promising us that you and the judiciary committee are going to be fair, but here's the top republican in the senate already proclaiming this done, proclaiming my client to be a liar, essentially. concerning the request that the fbi reopen a background check, and the hearing plan that your staffer, mark davis, described, meaning in an earlier communication, quote, does not appear designed to provide dr. blasey ford with fair and

i think for a lot of people who are watching, both women and men, christine blasey ford sort of represented person's ability to speak about a past and something that christine blasey ford herself has said was a dark secret in her life after so many years of not even wanting to share this with family and certainly not with so many cameras on her and so many people watching her. so i just had that thought about just what this moment represents. and then just in terms of the optics in the room, which you've talked about a lot today, i think there was sort of a missed opportunity for the republican male senators who chose not to question blasey ford themselves but passed on their five minutes to this female counsel. they were missing out on an opportunity to say anything about this movement, about this moment in our country, say something to sexual assault survivors, say something about the me too moment. because some of the most actually powerful moments in my opinion during this hearing is whether democratic male senators said what they wanted to say to blasey ford, telling her that they beli

brett kavanaugh or christine blasey ford? she wanted him to go first, ultimately, she will be speaking first. but what was accommodated, the two of them are not sharing space in the room. they have a holding area where they have an opportunity to watch these hearings. dr. ford is here on the hill, so far as we know, judge kavanaugh has not arrived. it will be several hours before he has his opportunity to speak given that the questioning will begin with dr. ford. as for the room itself, lester, i think back to when you and i were talking about the hearings over the summer when there was a scene in the room. broadcasting live, for example, overlooking from a balcony where judge kavanaugh was seated, some 50 plus still photographers gathered in the well in front of the desk snapping pictures. that's not going to happen today. dr. ford's team did not want that kind of an atmosphere. she is, as talked about earlier, having some concerns about this. she's nervous, scared, talked about that in her prepared remarks and at the same t

blasey ford on twitter. for more on this i was joined earlier by our washington correspondent chris buckler. essentially the big question remains, will christiney ford be prepared to testify to the senate judiciary committee or not? republicans who lead that committee, the chairman is chuck grassley, he'd set a deadline for a couple of hours ago in order for christine blasey ford's lawyers to come back and say she was prepared to testify. she didn't respond to that deadline and now they have set a deadline for the coming hours, and they have made very clear that, as far as they are concerned, if there is no response, then they intend to press ahead with a vote on whether or not brett kavanaugh should be the next supreme courtjustice on monday. that would take it to the next stage of really confirming him as a member of america's highest court. but christine blasey ford continues to want a number of conditions for this hearing to take place in order for her to give testimony. she wants brett kavanaugh to give testimony first. she doesn't want him in the room when she gives testimony, and she wants no time limit on the opening statement that she
